How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNice apartment located at the edge of old town with big rooftop terrace, well located for visiting Sassi. Clean, cosy and comfortable, equipped with necessities. Breakfast coupons for a nearby cafe, coffee or tea and croissant. Recommended.
Tiny shower, not for very big people

Verified reviewThe flat was tidy as one would expect. Nothing special. The kitchen with coffee and a sect type wine.
No WiFi, a lot of explanation why not. The breakfast was symbolic, one and only one croissant in a cafe in the city.
Dear guests, this senseless judgment of yours leaves me with a huge disappointment from all points of view.....I welcomed you with great professionalism...I explained to you quite a few things to visit in the ancient districts of our city (Sassi di Matera)....I have listed on the map our two affiliated bars where they serve excellent breakfasts made of freshly squeezed juices, coffee, cappuccino, croissants, toast and more so I don't understand this useless complaint and moreover in the rooms we also leave milk, coffee and pre-packaged croissants.... Returning to the Wi-Fi issue that caused you so much panic and disturbance, we had a problem with the new Iliad fiber system.....I also offered you an excellent bottle of prosecco to demonstrate that hospitality is fundamental for us. ...but perhaps for you these heartfelt gestures have absolutely no importance.....relax a little mentally which will only do you good....have a good holiday.

Verified reviewThe flat is in a very convenient position to reach the historical centre. The bathroom is really small and the kitchen lacks several things which could make the stay better (more mugs, kitchen papers, tea towels)
BREAKFAST! Althought the owner sells Terrazza sui sassi as a B&B, it is not in fact. He gave us voucher which we could redeem in two cafes located in the centre; the main problem is that the voucher had a 3 euros value!!!! You could hardly have a cappuccino and a pastry. When one goes to a B&B expects a proper, comfortable and abundant breakfast buffet, not a 3 euros voucher!!!! That was bad!
the apartment in question considered a bed and breakfast room has a size of about 45 square meters ..... the bathroom is a bit small and has all the requirements of a normal bathroom with all the comforts ... shower, bidet, sink , etc....so this judgment is devoid of any meaning.....as regards the so-called bed and breakfast breakfast.....the new regulations or rather the new bed and breakfast regulations do not provide plus the classic breakfasts that we used to apply once but only pre-packaged snacks that we leave fixed in each room with the addition of coffee, tea in sachets and more ...... the breakfast with ticket that we give to our customers for the stay provides, unlike what you wrote, a croissant, a cappuccino and a coffee..... the classic Italian breakfast.... sometimes it's easy with a simple judgment to denigrate the constant and active work of people like we who work to make the structure always at its best..... see you next time

Verified reviewExcellent location. A few steps from the accommodation there is a viewpoint with a wonderful view of the entire city.
When choosing accommodation on Booking.com, it is not at all clear whether the selected accommodation facility is a classic B+B where you get a normal breakfast with service in the breakfast room or whether it is an AirBnB where you only receive a strange prefabricated substance packed in vacuum bags and in addition coffee powder (so-called pods). For a possibly provided breakfast voucher (usually to a nearby bar) you will get just a cappuccino and a sweet croissant.
Dear Petr, perhaps you are not updated that in Italy the administration of food in a bed and breakfast is absolutely forbidden due to the various intolerances for which by law only pre-packaged products can be offered ... we offer our customers a double breakfast as you may have noticed you too.... one in the room with. pre-packaged snack products, milk, powdered coffee .... etc .... and one comfortably at the bar obviously offered by us in the structure with additional tickets .... I don't want to divulge myself yet it is that perhaps I treat my customers too well ...in everything from the reception andaccommodation in the room and to everything else... good luck to you... Petr
