How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe actual location was very good. The breakfast (at a local cafe-The Brooklyn) was good. The size of one bedroom was excellent the other quite small.
Travellers need to be aware that the stairs to the accommodation are very narrow, steep, and without handrails. The shower unit in one of our rooms needed a deep clean to remove the mould, and the towels were worn and in poor condition. Car parking was difficult to find near the accommodation (even with the details provided).

The rooms are located in an ancient building in the historic center and it is normal for there to be stairs to reach them; towels are changed every three days by law and you had two pairs... you can't expect 5-star hotel services and then pay half as much for a B&B. The surface of the rooms is exactly the same and the shower joints are absolutely not covered in mold, but rather it is the silicone which has a different color than the tile!!! be careful about writing things that are not true, because they can damage the reputation of those who have worked for years to please their guests!!!! There's no parking and no breakfast. Sure, parking is "available" in the street (if you're lucky) and you get a voucher for a coffee and a croissant in a caffetteria nearby... ...but that's not what you expect when you check the boxes "parking" and "breakfast" included when you book a place! This is playing with words and borderline fraudulent. This "mislabelling" is becoming now a widespread issue on Booking.com listings and I'm not sure who's responsible for that: the hosts or the platform.
Dear Bruno, thank you for having stayed at the VinsLounge B&B in Barletta in Puglia and for having preferred it over my competitors; breakfast was included in the rate you chose and it is also indicated in my file that it is an Italian breakfast consisting of: croissant, cappuccino and fruit juice to be consumed in the partner bar a few meters away. from the B&B !!! As for parking, I always send the right info when booking to easily find a place; since it is an historic center with limited traffic, it is normal that there are small restrictions in the evening; so talking about scams seems to me really a bit heavy and not very correct for those who clarify all the information necessary for a better stay before the guests arrive... I certainly don't feel responsible for a service that I have never arrogated to myself and which I don't have!!! From your votes, I am happy that your stay has been so pleasant and that you have been able to appreciate all the characteristics that distinguish my B&B, compared to colleagues on the market. Verified reviewAccording to the photos, the room looked much better than in reality.
The room is accessible via a very narrow staircase, without a balcony as stated in the offer. There wasn't even a glass in the room.

Verified reviewCentral location very close to the Duomo in narrow streets/alleys - beautiful part of Barletta. Lovely walk to the castle in the afternoon.
Property was in a narrow back alley and up steep stairs leading to dingy, dark rooms with no facilities for making tea or coffee. It was very noisy at night between loud neighbours and very loud music from nearby.
Dear David, I'm happy that he appreciated the centrality of the B & B in the city of Barletta, but I'm sorry that he expressed those words in order to the rooms that do not correspond absolutely to reality !!! You stayed during the re-enactment of the Challenge of Barletta, days in which our city is celebrating and also comes alive with many tourists; if someone had made a bit of noise in the streets it could also be there, but if you wanted to lead the life of a hermit, you had to choose a country house where you can hear only the sounds of nature there since the morning. Mine is a B&B and is purposely not equipped to make coffee or tea in the rooms so that's a totally inadequate complaint. Maybe you are more of an accommodation type with a "tacky" decor, but here we are in Italy and class and good taste are in force !!!! Sincerely, Vincenzo.
