How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe had a very pleasant time! Birgit and Richard are very pleasant hosts, the view is amazing, and the breakfast is wonderful! The road to the place can be a bit challenging, but very much worth the effort!

Verified reviewIf you want a quiet place with friendly hosts and a fantastic view of the Ocean and Mountains, that's the place to go. We took two of the tours they offer (Reach Falls and Kingston/Blue Mountains) and enjoyed them.
A bit far from anything. Can't really walk. But the guesthouse offers transportation for a reasonable fee.

Verified reviewThe views are beautiful from the top apartment. The place was nicely decorated and had a homey feel. Had a decent little kitchen to cook meals. Big doors that opened to the balcony with views and windows all over. On days where there is a nice breeze you do not need a fan or AC. Richard who is from JA was extremely kind and hospitable and helped ease my stress after a long trip and drive to Port Antonio from Kingston.
We made our reservation on booking.com, payment was due in person (jamaican dollars cash only). We rented a regular economy car from Kingston to this hotel (~3hrs drive). We initially got lost so Richard came down the hill to guide us to the hotel. We had no idea the road up the mountain was so undeveloped/rugged/potholed. So understandably, I was extremely stressed upon arriving bc it was already sunset and I was not sure if we could get up/down everyday with our car. We had planned on getting groceries after checking in but since I did not feel comfortable driving in the dark on those same roads I asked Birgit if we could please get a ride back down the hill. I had to beg this woman, as she said we should have got groceries before we got there and I should have planned ahead (how am I supposed to know the road was going to be that bad?). She finally agreed to have Richard drive us. Richard was very reassuring and said everything would be fine for the rest of our stay if we just drove REALLY slow. We did eventually do this… but only during the day… I made sure we were back before sunset everyday as I really could not imagine driving that road at night. Upon walking through the unit with Birgit I mentioned an odor coming from the bathroom (septic/sewage smell) she said it’s common after rain and to just open the windows to air out. I left the windows cracked open while we were out next day to air out the smell but then she came in and closed them and said we needed to close up all the windows when leaving (not sure why bc we were secluded and she was home all the time). The last 2 nights there was absolutely no breeze so the place was hot making it hard to sleep (the ceiling fan was not working for the last few months). When I told her this, she told me it was “not expected to have a fan or AC in Jamaica” which is ridiculous.
Sorry that you got stressed out by the road so much. The new fan arrived the day you left, bad timing. Some windows can’t get hugged, so they are banging when the wind is blowing what is actually not good for the windows, that’s why we kindly ask our guests to close them when they leave the apartment:)

Verified reviewBirgit and Richard were fantastic hosts and have the most beautiful guesthouse. The view is stunning, we had the gorgeous top floor apartment, and really enjoyed it. Breakfast was a huge hit too - homemade and homegrown delicious Jamaican dishes, fruit, cakes etc. Would strongly recommend.
The bedroom was quite warm at night and the fan wasn't working, though I know that Birgit is getting the electrician in to sort it.

Verified reviewBeautifully curated and in such good taste. Varied home made breakfast made mostly from food grown on the property. Amazing views, and relaxing terrace, peaceful and in tune with nature, but close enough to all attractions in Portland. Hosts who’ve put their soul into the place and are really knowledgeable about the local area. Felt relaxed from the moment we arrived.
everything was excellent- just what we wanted.

I liked everything about the property but if you rent a car make sure it sits up higher off the ground and isn’t lowdown because the hilly mountains require good car clearance

Verified reviewThe views were truly amazing! Our hosts were friendly and knowledgable too. Our additional evening meals were also lovely and I would totally recommend, as well as the breakfast. It was good to try some different local food, which was delicious.
The drive from Port Antonia was the only element to flag for people...it's not far but the road is largely unmade so you need a good SUV if you are driving...but the journey afforded us fantastic views and peace and tranquility, away from the town and views of the mountains, beautiful gardens and a panorama of the Port Antonio.
