How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

There were some extenuating circumstances around our booking with the loss of their family member, which makes it difficult to write a true review. The room didn’t have any instructions on Wifi, a number of the advertised amenities were not there - TV, toiletries. The pool was unusable (green)

Verified reviewWe reserved a room with an option to cancel. The last day to cancel had elapsed. Several days before the stay (the stay was reserved for one night), my wife felt ill. We asked to cancel free, but they refused. They got full money, and we got nothing. If some refund was made, ok, but nothing??! Be carefull before booking thus hotel.

However, we would like to remind you that the reservation you made was under a specific plan with a 14-day cancellation period, and unfortunately, your request to cancel was made after this period had elapsed. You notified us by email on the 15th of December 2023 that you wanted to cancel your reservation for the 17th of December 2023. The booking was never cancelled by you so we were never allowed to open the booking to anyone else. It became a 'did not show' meaning you had not checked in. As a business, we strive to maintain fairness and consistency in our policies for all guests. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused you and your wife. In situations where unforeseen circumstances occur outside the cancellation window, we encourage guests to consider travel insurance, which can provide coverage for unexpected events. We are also not a hotel, we are a Bed & Breakfast, We also cannot cancel a booking. All cancellations must go through Booking.com which has overall control of all the bookings made via them. As of November 26th, 2023, the road up the hill has been repaired, which should make the journey more convenient. To address the dinner options, there is a restaurant that serves Vegan food. However, we recommend exploring dining options in Kingston, particularly around Old Hope Road, where you can find a variety of restaurants to suit different preferences. This area is known for its diverse culinary scene, providing you with more choices for your dining experience. Verified reviewWe had breakfast every morning on the balcony overlooking the view of the Kingston and the ocean. Our room was spacious. The bathroom was spacious. The balcony to the room was a nice a size. We were able to see the mountains.
I didn't like having to disturb the owner each time to we wanted to leave the property.

We do appreciate your understanding regarding the need to have the gates opened and shut by us each time you wish to leave or enter the property. It may seem a bit unusual, but we've had a situation in the past where one of our dogs escaped because a guest forgot to lock the gate. Despite offering rewards and extensive searches, the dog never returned. So, as a precaution, we make sure to personally handle the gates to avoid any such incidents. We wouldn't want to lose another furry friend. Your cooperation and understanding mean a lot to us, and we hope it didn't inconvenience you too much during your stay. Verified reviewI want you "travelers from all around the world" to know that Lorna, the owner of the place, is absolutely exceptional for the way she handled my special requests and particularly my pick-up/drop-off, my food & drinks requests. she is professional, courteous, friendly, attentive, and engaging. she is such an exemplary & gracious host. She makes you feel so welcome, we almost already feel at home and soon in paradise at the same time. Her knowledge of Kingston and her remarkable solving request efficiency are rare indeed nowadays. She is a rich source of balanced information that we usually rarely glean while staying in a classic hotel. I just thought you should all know that this is a real asset to her business. Anyone who treats customers with so much kindness and attention is a rare jewel, and truly gives you an edge over her competition.
