Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThis place is beautiful! A renovated apartment in a traditional Japanese building - it has been beautifully renovated and has all the comforts you could need. A really stunning place to stay. I wish I had stayed for more than one night!

United StatesSteep stairs, bright light that shined into bedroom, basic kitchen step up so don't expect to be able to cook. We found very food options that were open in the town. I felt it was expensive for the area we stayed.
Beautiful property in a historical home. We didn't have anyone next door so it was quiet. Nice touches like dyson hairdryer, local green tea and sweets in the kitchen.

AustraliaIt wasn't totally clear to me that there's actually 2 dwellings in the "house", so it wasn't as private as I was expecting. It might not have been a big deal except there's no sound proofing because the building is old, so when our neighbours were up late laughing and giggling we could hear it quite clearly. The hosts do provide ear plugs at least. The stairs are quite steep, def not friendly for anyone with bad knees. Given the toilet is downstairs and the bedrooms are upstairs it also means "ducking to the loo" during the night is quite a mission. We had to leave a light on downstairs to avoid any neck breaking falls. Its also a bit of a struggle to get big suitcases up and down. There's no laundry facilities which seemed a bit odd for such a well equipped apartment. If you're staying a few days you'll have to use one of the coin laundries in town... There isn't one in easy walking distance however. Had to "check in" at a different location, their restaurant on the shopping street. It's not far, but there's nowhere to park so if you're in a car you're likely going to pull over illegally out front to check in. The property access is all door codes, no physical keys, so I don't know why they don't just do it all online.
For a start, it's on this site and friendly to western tourists, which is a bit of a rarity in this part of Japan. We actually stayed here to visit Oboke and Iya valley - there wasn't anything closer we could find with availability. The apartment is a charming folk house restoration/conversion. It's well equipped, especially in the bathroom, which along with an auto filling Japanese bathtub included multiple Dyson hair styling accessories. The beds were firm but comfortable, and the bedrooms are quite spacious. There's split system A/C up and down stairs to keep the place cool/warm. Its about 3 mins walk to the covered shopping street where most of the restaurants are, maybe 10 from the train station. There's also a car space but its in a lot 3 doors down.

NetherlandsLimited options to prepare breakfast. Only one small pan.
Great combination of the old building and good facilities (e.g. bath, airco). Close to Iya valley and acces to the highway to drive to other parts of Shikoku.

AustraliaThe kitchen was very small. Some cutting knives and a chopping board would have been useful.
We loved the accommodation. It was beautiful staying in a traditional building with history. The bath and it’s view were especially wonderful. A wonderful experience.

United StatesCouldn't have asked for anything more!
The staff at 4S Stay were very accommodating. Because my partner and I arrived late, they communicated with us ahead of time and insured that we had information for entering the property and parking without needing to stop by their main hotel for check-in. The amenities were fantastic, and the whole place was spotless.
