Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceMany American & western tourists when I was there. Unfortunately, many of them don't know manners as they were talking loud especially the Americans, and they forget to remove the shoes in the communal bath at some point I have to remind them to remove it. Some tourists also let their empty cups on tables, spilled the coffee or coffee cream everywhere. For morning breakfast, some tourists were eating so much that others don't have time to try some dishes. Maybe the hotel could improve the breakfast experience because when we arrived around 9:00-9:30 am, I felt the choice of dishes decreased a lot. Once I had no more rice, no more congee: so I was a bit surprised. Having the breakfast near the entrance turned out to be very noisy and spoiled the experience. The space was far from calm and relaxing place especially when you have a big tourist group chatting nearby.
Spacious room & clean, nice shower. The staff was helpful and efficient. Nice to get free coffee or cold drink when checking. I enjoyed the communal bath.

AustraliaHard weird pillows have to ask for extra as only give one per bed.
Weird uncomfortable pillows to sleep on, rooms ok size larger than some we stayed in within Japan. Breakfast was good buffet style so catered for most diet concerns. Dinner was not good most of time your groups there but if you head out to the right and then turn right again you are in the Main Street so loads of restaurants. beds are large enough for myself and a 7 year old to share. Bus number 9 outside goes to Kyoto station and easy walk to trains for sight seeing

United KingdomThe rooms are small, but enough for 2 people. The gym is paid for (not included in the room price), which is a bummer. You also need to book a slot to use it and won’t be allowed if someone else is using it.
The property is located at walking distance to the main centre. The staff is helpful and friendly. They have a good gym but…

AustraliaWas under the impression gym was included but you need to pay a little bit extra and book. The tv hotel guide to show time left on the 4 washing machine doesn't really synchronised correctly to the time left on the actual machine.
Large onsen bath separate gender was very helpful after long day of walking. Laundry machine was reasonable good but only takes 3 kg clothes for clothes to dry through well. A small challenge for a family of 4 volume. Location close to bus stop. Got an ice machine near vending.

United KingdomGym was chargeable for guests, which is crazy. Wasn’t overly expensive but if you stayed for longer for x2 would add up, and just seems unnecessary. The room is tiny, no where for luggage. Thankfully we only done x2 nights and took a backpack from our hotel in tokyo as no idea where we would have put a case. View outside window was a concrete building almost at the window. We were both glad to get back to our more spacious and nicer tokyo room.
good location, close to a main street and JR/tram for easy access all over Kyoto. Supermarket on doorstep and lots of places to eat nearby. Kept luggage after check out. Good wifi.

United Arab EmiratesI booked this hotel as I needed a gym and was quite surprised to find out that gym is not free and guest has to pay extra for it. It was just 550 yen - not a big deal - but truth be told, it is the first time I am staying at the hotel where you have to pay for the gym…
I was looking for something not far from the train station with a gym as I had to workout so decided that this hotel was a great option. The location is really good - 20mins walk from train station but also there is a metro nearby. Supermarkets, restaurants and actually a quite busy city center is also within walking distance. Room was typical like in every Japanese hotel - a bed, TV, desk; slippers for more comfort and bathroom with amenities and refillable shampoo/conditioner/body wash.
