Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNothing in particular that I disliked. I would say that sometimes it's difficult to walk back to the guesthouse in the winter conditions with all the snow, so the location isn't super convenient for people who need transportation. But as long as you speak to the host, they will be helpful!
This is a great spot for solo travelers! I was very comfortable and felt safe. The staff were extremely kind and generous. They offered me rides or wanted to help me with my transportation because the guesthouse was far from the main city. I would often walk, so I didn't need a ride, but it's great how attentive they are to my needs.

JapanBe aware of the hostel's location, it is on the outskirts of Abashiri city. It has sea views and its own parking lot. The nearest convenience store is 3 kms away. Would stay again.
This is a traditional Japanese hostel. The male and female dormitories, toilets and bathrooms are on different floors. The dormitory had 5 beds, but there were only 2 of us staying. The hostel has shared toilets and a shared bathroom, the bath is huge but you can just shower if you choose. Dinner is served at 6pm and breakfast at 7am in a large dining room. For dinner we had udon, tempura and all you can eat curry rice. The food was delicious. The dining room is a communal space outside of meal times. There is a vending machine that sells alcoholic as well as soft drinks in the lobby. Shoes are removed upon entry. The owners are friendly. This would be great place to stay if you're going on the early drift ice cruise, it's only a 10 minute drive from the cruise boarding point.

SpainNothing in particular.
Beautiful location and kind hosts. It is a bit of a walk from the station, but the location is beautiful, so it didn't bother me, and they offer to give you a ride to and from the station when you check-in/out if you need it. I was only able to stay one night when I was there, but would definetly try to stay for longer next time I'm in the area.

JapanPolite and helpful host. Since it is not walkable from the station, they helped to commute to the station with car. Dinning room is available, so you can keep food in refrigerator. We did not try food here, but I think they provide.

TaiwanThe location is in the mountain, far away from downtown and JR station. If you drive car, it only takes 6 minutes from downtown. But if you don’t have any cars, you need to make a phone call to the owner, he can provide pick-up service.
1.The owner is really kind! 2.Though the house is a little old, but very comfortable and made me sleep so well. 3.The owner treats his house very well! 4.The house is really clean! 5.The view and the atmosphere make people relax.

SloveniaSuper hard bed, like sleeping on flor. They do jot have AC or fan and it was super hot that day, we could not sleep, just keep sweating. At night it got cooler outside but house was still like sauna - it must have been 30 degrees inside. And at 5 AM sun shines right in the room , so no way you can sleep. Reception is not very welcoming.
Room is not that small especially if not full. Big dining area. They prepare ofuro

FranceThe room is absolutely not suitable for summer. There is no air conditioning or even a fan, making the heat and humidity unbearable throughout the day and night. Additionally, there are no blackout curtains or shutters, so the room becomes very bright as early as 4 a.m. when the sun rises.
The staff was nice and polite

SingaporeFirstly, parking spots just under a tree that will stain all over your car next morning. Corner quadruple room given with just beds a table a chair, clothe hangers and a weak water cooler box fan. No mirror to even prep yourself. In summer month with all window and door closed, we reckoned it was above 30°C in the room even with the box fan on full blast! We had to leave the door open to ventilate and hopefully cool down the room. The men had to sleep topless and with shorts.Opening the windows only invite tiny flies and bugs in even with the window meshes on. Thing mattress on wooden board bed which you have to put on the bedsheets yourself, COL!Time constrainted shower time with just one bathroom to share with men and women alternatively by hanging gender identity label. Smelly and tiny shared only toilet for either men on first floor or women on second floor . Location is at the fringe of the town.

New ZealandAs a family with two young ish kids it didn’t feel like the best place for us. There were lots of rules and expectations around noise and other things that made us a bit on edge. Also the breakfast didn’t seem worth the money and you’re only able to use the microwave and fridge to store and cook your own food - no access to bowls or cutlery or anything. Finally beware of the location as you cannot bus from here into the city. We had bikes so it didn’t bother us (except the big hill 😅).
A very cute bnb that’s been running a long time. It’s in a beautiful spot on top of a hill with a great hill. Very clean and although old, it had everything we needed.
