Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

United StatesRoom is old and the private onsen is even older. Not worth the money, especially not for the jacked-up holiday price US$1100+. I’d rather pay extra to stay at other hotels in the neighborhood or Shuzunji. No welcome drink at check in, not even water when it was extremely hot outside. No tour around the property, maybe because there is not much to see and the public bath is under construction. For a foodie who loves Japanese food, food was well decorated but the taste was mediocre. Very fresh local ingredients, but you can find better Ippaku nishoku hotels in Izu Peninsula that offer more inspiring and superior Kaiseki dining experience. We made a reservation for pick up at Izu Kogen station one week in advance, but no show and had to call the hotel. Waited over One Hour. Upon arrival, they explained in a casual way that it was a miscommunication due to language barrier. Nothing was given as a form of apology, not even a candy. In comparison, we stayed at another onsen hotel and the team always reply in both Japanese and English. Guess what, I know how to use Google translate to avoid any confusion:)
