Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThe staff were not friendly or helpful, especially at the desk. Could not give much advice on hiking trail like which trail to go. Onsen, which was good, must go to another hotel, which I find it kind of ridiculous. And bus service to that hotel only at certain time.
Spacious room by Japanese standard. In front of the room was the view of Lake Akan, beautiful. Breakfast was good and healthy.

AustraliaBreakfast & Dinner were in the ‘plan’. Over the two days the unused food from the day before appeared to be recycled with perhaps an added vegetable or flavour. As this was a buffet and food was sitting at just over room temperature this is a problem with bacteria etc. Stews and soups were not served hot enough and there was very little fresh vegetable or salad. Salads tended to have meat or seafood included and were heavy on mayonnaise type dressing. Hotel lacked any tourist information on the area. TV screens showed some activities but not how to book them. Signs for others were only in Japanese and staff had limited English to help. When we arrived we were informed that our room would not be cleaned the next day and given a 1000yen voucher to compensate. Then the next day a bag of clean towels, room supplies etc were left outside our room. Can’t understand the rational.
Mostly good. Nice library of photography books to use in the sitting areas. Staff were pleasant. Room was large by Japanese standards and comfortable ( bed a little hard). Lovely view out Lake Akan from window seat. Plenty of hanging and shelf space.

AustraliaI cannot think of anything I dislike
I love the lounge/ reading area and there's a music corner where I sit and enjoy the music. The dining room for dinner and breakfast are nicely decorated specifically for tables near the windows that give beautiful view while enjoying the meals.

Good view from the lake facing room. Buffet meals were good but can feel repetitive. Helpful staff.

CanadaIt has gone downhill since I last stayed here about 10 years ago. It is getting a little tired and the food was not as good as I had remembered. Also the other guests were very pushy-not my previous experience in Japan.

AustraliaCar parking was at a remote location, so was not easy to access our vehicle during the stay. Hotel transport was limited. Shuttle bus to the main part of town ran only between 5 and 9pm, so it was quite difficult to get around for those with limited mobility.
Good location. Nice view of the lake from the room.

SingaporeThe meals was a little boring as I stayed for 2 nites so repeated eats but the food was good and tasty. Maybe more fruits? I guess no one stay for more than 1 night but they have a cafe attached which opens for lunch and night but did not ry.
The room was newly renovated and spacious and great view of the lake. Near to the forest walk which was great and the ferry terminal. Quiet though as it was off peak but it was a great break. You get access to the sister property for the onsen which i did not do it but I think it will be good too.

New Zealand1);The raised step in our room was a trip hazard.I fell heavily when I tripped over it when first entered the room as I did not see it as it was between the bed and the desk.I was badly shaken up but luckily not injured. 2) the space for the toilet was too small in the bathroom and having the basin in the room was inconvenient.

SingaporeThe bathroom ventilation is weak and poor, thus creating a stale smell. Water pressure and shower head need to be improved.
The hotel is located along lake side and the room had a beautiful view of the lake. Though Japanese style room was looking a little worn out, it does have a distinctive Japanese tatami room style. The evening stroll was relaxing and the local artifact shops nearby were interesting. Saw a beautiful rainbow too! The buffet dinner was excellent with a wide choice and of good quality. The buffet breakfast was good too.

LuxembourgI am not a big fan of having to take a shuttle to get my car... but there is simply no parking nearby. The staff was super friendly and helpful with luggage though. The in-house onsen is a bit too much old school, and could use some TLC. Finally, the buffet was very good in quality and quantity (the tempura and karaage are great); but there are no heating devices...so better come for the early service.
The location, the view of the lake, the modern and spacious room, the friendly staff, most of the buffet. The hotel seems to have two categories of rooms - the old ones, still stuck a bit in the past... where some of the criticism on this website apply. and the new ones, having all the comfort and perks you would expect from an hotel in this price range - I had one of the latter ones, and was very happy with my stay.

Hong KongThe toilet in the room is too small. And the facility is kind of too old but it is great value for money.
Good variety of food for dinner and breakfast. Great location that the hotel is located in the middle of Akan lake which is very accessible to many attractions. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
