Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanUnfortunately we didn’t had the view of the lake from the room. The parking lot is quite far from the hotel, which is quite inconvenient, we would have to take the shuttle bus to and from the hotel and parking lot. The outdoor onsen on top of the hotel (showed as a main attraction of the hotel in the photos) was prohibited, but it was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel.
There are a lot of facilities and even a few stores inside the hotel. It’s right in the center of the village. The buffet is really good and diverse.

United KingdomIt would have been great for there to be a bar open for longer - the hours while we stayed were 8pm - midnight. You could get alcohol with dinner too. The gym would be much better if it had some weights.
Our room was amazing - big and comfortable and with a great view of the lake. Hotel facilities were awesome - amazing onsen and the sauna was so good. Food was delicious. Staff were great.

AustraliaRoom was adequate - small, no view, tiny shower and bath. Futon bed and pillows were very comfortable.
Lake Akan is beautiful and this property benefits from being lake side with gorgeous art displays inside and in the garden. The food buffets were incredible. I wasn’t able to use the onsen and it looked spectacular. I love hiking and nature and they have an adventure centre through which guided walks can be booked. We hired bikes from the sightseeing boat centre and this is highly recommended. Bikes can be hired from the hotel but not when we were there.

United StatesThe AC is not actually AC. More like a fan that blows room temp air. When we complained to the manager he stated that the unit can blow neither cold or hot air. Just air. So our room got considerably warm and we had to open the windows to get it to a more comfortable sleeping temperature. That was disappointing. Also, would love to see labels on the buffet options that state which items contain pork, as most of our group does not consume pork and it was difficult to determine what we could eat.
This was our first time doing an onsen and our entire group thoroughly enjoyed it. We liked getting experience the different baths, as the men and women swap locations in the evenings. Buffet breakfast and dinner were both amazing with tons of options. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

AustraliaRoom was a little warm and hard to control temperature. Pity you needed to pay for the gym and massage chairs. Given we were there for multiple nights, a variety of the buffet restaurants would have been nice.
Onsens and food were fantastic. Such a wonderful experience. Great location with respect to township and proximity to the Ainu village. We were lucky enough to experience the ice festival at the time that was terrific.

SingaporeThe staff seem a bit clueless and lacking in training as they gave us the wrong information on several occasions. Eg. we asked what was the last entry time for the breakfast buffet and the staff told us the wrong time which caused us to almost miss the buffet entirely. We also had trouble finding the buffet location as there are multiple restaurants in the resort so we asked another staff for directions who directed us to the wrong place even though I showed her the restaurant name on our meal ticket 😑 Some of them are also quite rude and have a bad attitude.
- The public outdoor onsen is exceptional and a must go! They switch the baths for women and men at regular timings each day so i highly recommend going to both if you have the time. - The buffet dinner and breakfast included in our stay had such an amazing spread, definitely worth the price - Just next to Lake Akan, very nice views and you can just walk there from the hotel to do all kinds of winter activities like ice fishing, snow mobile rides etc. - There is a cute shopping street just across the entrance where you can pick up some snacks and souvenirs.
