Reviews of Lake Akan Tsuruga Wings 3 stars

It seems that Lake Akan Tsuruga Wings is an annex to the original hotel. The public areas were very impressive with many wood carvings and information about the local environment and culture. The room had a very scenic view of lake Akan and mount Meakan. The staff were very polite and efficient. The onsens were were very nice with views over Lake Akan and the surroundings. The restaurant got busy for breakfast and dinner, but the staff were very good and efficient - I didn't need to wait long to be seated. I was travelling alone but the hotel picked me up and took me back to the bus station.

It was difficult to control the temperature of the shower - it fluctuated from cold to hot. This seems to be a problem with spa hotels - the shower seems to be an afterthought. Maybe most people use the onsen instead of the shower in the room. The shower is not what's expected from an hotel of this price and quality. I booked a Japanese-style room. The tatami mats were very nice but the floor underneath seemed to have sagged, so the floor was uneven. Breakfast and dinner buffet was included in the booking. The variety of foods and amount were good, but they were the same every day. Changing some of the options from day to day would be appreciated by guests staying longer than one night. Many tour groups were leaving and arriving especially in the morning and afternoon, so the hotel could be busy and noisy at peak times..

The View, the lake although not yet completely freeze but very nice.. The breakfast & dinner so delicious.. Everything was good..

Just the bathroom, it's too small..

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful during check in. Dinner and breakfast was delicious. Nice place to head to near the hotel.

Remote parking

The room is large. We slept well on tatami mats which is comfortable and cozy. The onsen is all right. Buffet dinner and breakfast is great, good fresh variety.

Nothing

Great location in the centre of Akan lake town. Lake facing room was really good and worth the extra cost. Dinner buffet was nice if you don't want to step out of the hotel in the evening.

Bathroom / toilet was really small, very squeezy and a bit uncomfortable, this could have been better planned out given the overall room size.

It's proximity to Lake Akan and the availability of having a local guide to take us for a walking tour and explaining the attractions there. The short street also had a few interesting shops. We arrived early and had a very good lunch at a small ramen shop at the end of the street.

The bathtub to take a shower is not suitable for those who are seniors there are no handles to hold on to climb in and out. However, because it had a good onsen, we took our shower there instead. It took quite a while before we received an answer about the walking tours as we wanted to be sure that the guides do speak English. (They do!)

Great onsen. Wonderful breakfast and dinner buffet. While staying in this hotel, we have free access to sister hotel that is located just beside. Wonderful onsen in the sister hotel.

Car park is 600m away. When we stayed, there was some insects - we were told it was common for this time of the year.

Brilliant staff. Fabulous meals. View was great. Bed was comfortable and pillows were good (though a bit firm). WiFi worked well. The lounge was relaxing and solo harpist was excellent.

A damp smell in the corridors. Some confusion over which of the 2 joining hotels was which. No simple access to parked car (about 600m away). An English-speaking receptionist would have made it simpler for us non-Japanese speaking (though this is understandable). The shuttle bus to the Kamuy Lumina tour was good, but we needed to walk back in the rain.

Great location

Rooms had a very strong smell of cigarets, when we asked to change room the only option for a non smelly room was to upgrade with good money

There are lots of Tsuruga hotels which was confusing.

The dinner buffet is great. It offers many choices of sea food and Japanese style meals.

The room was a great tatami room with a view of the lake. Spectacular in the evening and morning light.

One of the most unique experiences I've had - an exceptional stay, starting from the location next to Lake Akan, the tatami floor in the room and the wagashi offered, the rich and varied breakfast and dinner, the marvellous onsen and the lovely staff. The hotel is also decorated with magnificent Ainu culture symbols.

The bathtub in the room was a bit outdated.

We had a superior Japanese/Western style room with superb views of Lake Akan. Great, super large bathroom too.

The stndard western room had a very, very basic bathroom Buffet was quite buzzing, but nothing unmanageable
