Reading your comments, which conveyed how thoroughly you enjoyed your stay with us, filled our staff with great pleasure. Jōzankei is located approximately 40 minutes from central Sapporo and is often referred to as Sapporo's “inner sanctum”. Our hotel is nestled like a secluded retreat within the national park, some 4 kilometres further away from the town centre of Jōzankei itself. While there is truly nothing in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and you may occasionally find it inconvenient, we are relieved to hear you enjoyed your stay amidst nature. Regarding dinner, we offer a single Italian course, which is quite rare for a hot spring inn in Hokkaido. It consists simply of five dishes: an appetiser, pasta, fish, meat, and dessert. Our chef personally selects the finest seasonal ingredients from Hokkaido, fusing them with Italian cuisine, and pays meticulous attention to the accompanying vegetables and the plates used for presentation. We are delighted that you felt it was ‘on par with high-end Italian restaurants in America’; the chef is very pleased to hear this. Kasho Gyoen is nestled like a secluded retreat within a national park, surrounded by primeval forest. We offer 23 rooms, each generously sized at over 53 square metres. Furthermore, each room features large windows and a “Forest View Bath” fed by Usubetsu Onsen, allowing you to enjoy the views of the primeval forest while bathing in the hot spring waters within your private space. The scenery visible from the room windows remains fresh and special even to us, who see it daily. We are delighted to hear that gazing upon these views helped you refresh. We were delighted to suggest recommended sightseeing spots to help you enjoy your Hokkaido trip to the fullest, and the staff member in question was very pleased to hear you described them as ‘very kind and enthusiastic’. We are very happy to read that you enjoyed your dinner. However, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and discomfort caused by the unsatisfactory breakfast and the smell of smoke in your room. Our breakfast is served in Japanese style, and since June 10, we have changed the style of our breakfast. We serve freshly prepared dishes that are handmade that morning with the utmost care. Each dish is carefully prepared so that our guests can enjoy a quiet and quality morning. The aroma of the wood burning in the sunken hearth has been well received by many of our guests as “nostalgic” and “soothing.” We sincerely apologize for any discomfort caused by the smell that affected your room. As you say, we are a small inn with a total of 23 rooms, so we try to be close to each and every one of our guests and provide them with the hospitality that makes them happy to come to our inn. We are very honoured by your kind words of praise, as we do our best to meet your wishes. Our beds are made of ‘Slumberland’, which has been awarded the Royal Warrant three times. We used the highest grade, the Luxury Kingdom, which is soft but does not sink in, and we had prepared a mattress that is both comfortable to sleep on and reduces the burden on the body.
