How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewThe APA Hotel was very good located near a metro station and a konbini, as well as many restaurants and places to drink something at night. The staff was very friendly, and they had luggage storage available. The room included toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, razors, cotton buds, shampoo, hair conditioner and body wash. There were also slippers and a yukata available to use, as well as a mini fridge and complimentary water bottles upon arrival to the room.
The room wasn't huge, but it's the Japanese average size so nothing to complain about!

Verified reviewI've stayed at this hotel twice now, and both experiences were amazing! The staff were very nice, easy to communicate with, very helpful and made checking in and checking out a breeze. The included breakfast was delicious. The bed was comfy, the room was clean and had everything I needed. The hotel is in a convenient location, close to a train station and in a quiet street. The luggage storage made it easy to leave my luggage and explore the area after check-out.

Verified reviewThank you for providing such excellent environmental conditions. However, the attitude of the front desk staff towards customers has greatly reduced the hotel's cost performance. The incident occurred because I bought an expensive Japanese sake (about 40,000 yen) and had not yet opened it for consumption. When I checked out, I forgot to take it with me as it was frozen in the refrigerator. The cleaning staff immediately threw it away. I called the hotel front desk and even went to the front desk to argue with them, but they said that since it was a drink, they would not inform the customer and would directly throw it away. They also said that there was no rule in the hotel regulations that required them to inform the customer even if they had the customer's contact information. I was extremely shocked by their response. I suffered a loss for no reason. Although I was partly responsible for forgetting the item, they had obtained my phone number and email address when I checked in. Everyone knows that the rules in Japan are so strict, and APA is a well-known first-class hotel brand worldwide. Shouldn't they inform the customer before throwing away the guest's belongings (especially new items)? Don't they have the most basic quality? Where is the hotel's rule? In the end, the hotel did not want to compensate for the loss they caused to the customer. Their irresponsible attitude is truly unacceptable.

At APA Hotels, we generally do not contact guests when they leave something behind, except for items that contain personal information, such as wallets. Please note that the address and email address we ask guests to provide at check-in are required by the Inns and Hotels Act and will not be used to contact you about lost items. Furthermore, for hygienic reasons, we will store any food or drink items for a very short period of time before promptly disposing of them. As our hotel does not have refrigerated or frozen storage facilities, we cannot guarantee the quality of lost items. For these reasons, the alcohol you left behind was disposed of in accordance with our company rules. Verified reviewThe room may be tiny (I booked a standard single), but I think it's very well designed to be as efficient with space as possible and still be pretty comfortable. There were plenty of hooks along the walls to hang things, and the huge TV is amounted on the wall in front of the bed for nice easy dozing off before bed or relaxing. It's a newly built hotel too and completely smoke-free, so the spaces are generally very clean and I loved how you can manually adjust your room temperature, whereas some other hotels in Japan don't let you. And after staying in older budget hotels around Japan, I now have a great appreciated for the fact that this hotel's AC air does NOT have any hint of general oldness and lingering stale smoke smells from previous smokers (urgh).
I booked this hotel through Booking.com, and I had not seen an option to NOT pay for breakfast if you didn't need it, at least for the single room I reserved. So that felt like money wasted. Also, this location is not as convenient if you have heavy luggage and you don't have a personal guide who knows the area well. Google doesn't help either because it'll tell you take the closest train exit to the hotel, BUT if you have heavy luggage, Google does not take into account that the closest stations do NOT have elevator or escalator access to the ground floor above the subway. It's confusing too because even if you find one elevator, it might not even be on the correct platform side you need to be on, and then you have to take the elevator back up and find the OTHER counterpart elevator entrance to the train platform you need. Very frustrating if you're new to the area and alone and/or don't have a guide. Another thing is that the hallways and elevator have zero air conditioning, so it's very hot everywhere except the lobby and inside your room but only AFTER you turn on your room AC. If you're traveling here in summer, your room will be an oven when you first enter. Inside the room, I was heavily disappointed that the "universal charger" did not fit my 3-prong power adapter for my US-based laptop. Americans - beware! Bring a 3-prong adapter or you'll have to find the nearest mega electronics store that will actually sell one (the 100-yen store adapters will not work).
