Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaFour bed dorm included one shower and one toilet to share. Some will use a hairdryer at 10pm, which was a shame. Otherwise, my only request would be to please add house wine to the hostel bar menu!!
Extremely convenient location. 3 min walk from station and lots of restaurants easily accessible including many with 10% discounts related to hostel. Team were delightful. Female dorm was off back alley with 2 flights of steep stairs so you’ll need to cart your stuff up and down as no lift. Needed earplugs at night due to local night life but not a problem. Hostel bar a great place to meet people.

I stayed at the 4-person female dormitory for 2 nights, the only thing I regret is not booking more nights here. I dropped off my luggage at the cafe before checking in. When I came back later in the afternoon to check in, the staff helped carry my suitcase all the way upstairs to the dormitory (in a different building but less than 1 min away) for me. The beds are first come first serve, but they are all spacious. I was surprised to see how clean and cozy the space felt. Plenty of room in the shower and toilet, large sink. Great location, right outside of train station and bus terminal. I 100% recommend staying here for any solo female travelers. You also get 10% off at some of the nearby restaurants and cafes. I look forward to staying here next time I visit Fukuyama.

FranceThe only thing is that dorms are not in the same building as the reception/lounge bar, you have to cross the street. But not that important !
The location is very convenient, super close to the castle, and the dorm is very clean and quiet.

PortugalBecause there is no wall between the lavatories and the comon area where the beds are, you can't prevent making noise early in the morning.

CanadaThey charged 220 yen for a towel rental, which I found a bit steep compared to other hostels. Also, there are no lockers or lockable cupboards to keep your things-- though everyone was very respectful so I didn't feel worried about this, had I wanted to store my things, the train station likely would have been the place to do it.
Very near Fukuyama Station so great for daytrips to nearby places like Hiroshima, Okayama, Onomichi, etc. Staff were friendly and welcoming (even though my Japanese is limited, we managed to communicate okay). Loved the room with its big windows and the privacy of the bunks.

JapanThe raised floor to the bathroom is made of sharp black rock and I cut my toe on the edge of it as I stepped up. A beveled edge would be safer. The shower fan filter also needed to be cleaned. Please include one more trash can under the sink as well.
I really enjoyed the shower at the guest house property, and if I had more time I would have enjoyed the cafe as well.

SingaporeI love everything!
I read about Omotenashi - Japanese service standard, and I found it in the most unexpected of places, that is, Area Inn Fushimicho Fukuyama Castle Side. Danjo Masatoshi was amazing! I asked him where to buy ice pad wraps for my sprained ankle. He got it for me, for free! I needed to check out early at 630AM before the reception opens at 9AM. Danjo helped me store my heavy luggage at a 24-hour public bath next door so that I don't need to carry it down long flights of stairs the next morning. He was able to think on his feet and solve problems on the spot, which made his customers' stay comfortable and fuss-free. Appreciate the genuine effort in going the extra mile. Rooms are spacious, sleek, and stylish. Bathroom essentials provided. Location was excellent! Right behind Fukuyama train station. Hotel bar is a co-working space where you can meet and interact with locals. One night of stay in Fukuyama to explore Tomonoura turned out to be amazing and memorable thanks to Danjo's help! He may look like a quiet man of few words but he turns out to be very empathetic and helpful!

SingaporeI wanted to say “No Elevator” but that would defeat the whole idea of staying at Area Inn!
Retro Japan comes alive in the building…meaning no elevator! And 3 steep levels up! But worth every step, because the room oozed sleek design and presented a very welcoming space. Only thing missing was a kettle… Haruki helped me with my luggage up the stairs. Arigato!

United Kingdombeautiful loft room, great location, and really kind staff (after I messed up my dates and rocked up a whole day early 🫣 omg! 😰 doh 😣, they kindly sourced me a extra night in a different room, and then even moved my bags for me while I was day tripping to tonomoauri. Ultimately the kindness and compassion is invaluable beyond words, when you are solo traveling, mess up and panic that you’re going to have nowhere to sleep that night). The cafe also does a great breakfast and coffee x

SingaporeThe only thing was that I brought a rather large luggage (~28-inch) and the staircase was a bit narrow, so I had a hard time carrying my luggage down the stairs.
The staffs were really friendly and helpful. The interior design of the female dormitory was really nice and I had enough privacy space throughout my stay.
