Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe bathroom was very small, but it's to be expected for the room size so not a complaint.
Very old school hotel with helpful, friendly staff and small rooms. Perfect for solo travelers. There are 3 onsen areas within the hotel, one of them has a small sauna area. Spa and other types of pools are available per reservation for a cost. The "cave" was a cool experience at night, soaking in the pool overlooking the forest and listening to all of its sounds was a great time. There's no point in mentioning cleanliness. In this price range it's a given, even if the hotel itself is quite old and shows signs of aging in some places.

United StatesThe staff was absolutely amazing. The hostess did her best to explain our meals and answer our questions, as did the reception staff. There was a sense of ceremony in how our meals were served. They were especially careful when helping us with taxis and with our luggage delivery, spending a lot of time and effort to ensure our luggage would get to our next destination, including calling our next host for us. Amenities-wise, there was no need to bring our own towels or toiletries. Their soap, skin care, and even combs were nice. Location-wise, there were a lot of local shops just down the street. A great stay!

SwitzerlandThe Ryokan was amazing. I wanted to try this experience once and I was completely amazed. It was wonderful, very beautiful, and the food was delicious. People were very kind and respectful. Even my japanese friend was amazed. She loved it as well. She said the onsen was very beautiful, unfortunately I couldn't check it myself.

GermanyThe air conditioner in the room is outdated and difficult to adjust.
Spacious room with tatami flooring and a spa tub, offering a relaxing mountain view. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and dinner served in the room, which made the experience even more special. Our room hostess, Suah, and her colleague were incredibly friendly and patient, making our stay very comfortable.

MalaysiaToilet was a bit small. But that's actually okay because the onsens have lovely showers. There's a slight musty odour in my toilet but didn't affect my stay that much.
Very clean, professional staff, quiet area. The onsens and yukata are wonderful. Onsen and dressing area absolutely exceeded my expectations.

AustraliaWe thought having to ring reception to refill our cold and hot water kettles and jugs was a bit weird. We requested a larger jug which was promptly provided. It would be better to install hot and cold water fountains on each floor, if that is possible.
Excellent Onsen bathing facilities including massage chairs and tables for before or after your bathing. Our room hostess was particularly impressive with her professional, skilful work in presenting and explaining our traditional Japanese breakfasts and dinners, which were served in our room. It was only a short walk downhill to the charming town which offered freshly cooked local specialties as you passed by. The property also provided transport to the nearby Ropeway and the station on arrival and departure.

NorwayNothing major. The tub has a pump that makes vibrations through the floor that cannot be turned off. Was just a little annoying while trying to sleep.
We had a traditional style room with dinner and breakfast served in the room, and with a private spa tub in the bathroom. The service during the meals was out of this world, and the food was varied and really high quality. As westerners, some of the food was a bit too exotic for us, but it was more than enough food anyway. The beef was really good. We experienced both one of the private spas and the natural public spa, and they were both wonderful. The spa tub in the room was also amazing, and it's such a treat to get right into a really hot bath straight from bed. With a wonderful view, no less. This was an exceptional experience and is truly recommended.

South KoreaAmazing experience, especially the way the room service staff treats you. Our lovely service attendant, Suah, even left us a sweet goodbye note, partially written in Spanish (we're from Spain), which was such a thoughtful gesture. The onsens are excellent, although they lack the option to alternate between hot and cold water—it’s a shame this feature isn’t available in at least one of them. Also, while the building's facade facing the road has been recently painted and looks fantastic, the side facing the river—which is what guests see from their rooms—appears quite deteriorated. This unfortunately takes away some of the charm from the experience and makes the view feel a bit sad.

The outdoor onsen was fantastic. It was located a walk away but within the hotel complex. The walk becomes a journey that takes you into a different slower paced mindset and you soothe your stress away as soon as you soak into the onsen.

AustraliaIt was expensive and a little far up the hill from the main part of Orima. But its worth the 5- 10 min walk.
Amazing place. It's huge and you could easily spend a couple days not even leaving, just relaxing. Great views, great staff and the open air Onsen for free was the best I experienced in Japan. An excellent way to recover from a busy trip.
