Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt can be loud at night do to the proximity to the rail station.
The natural geothermal onsen was rejuvenating. Really. I was feeling run down as if I caught a cold before I arrived. Spent time in the onsen, relaxed afterward and an hour later I felt good enough to travel on foot the very vertical decent into town.

SpainThe check-in was via a tablet, and it did not work immediately. Fortunately, if you need the help of staff, they come right away. The location was not too far from the station but indeed it was on a hill that we did on foot but maybe not accessible for everybody.
The room was spacious and the futon were very comfortable. Nice traditional onsen/sento that I did not use but looked very cozy. It had a common area with ping pong table, tv...

AustriaCommunication has to be improved by a lot, I was never given an answer to my questions through booking and also through e-mail and the staff is only there between 4 and 9 pm to reach apparently.
Beautiful hotel close to the Atami train station, we had a big japanese style room, there are toilets and water dispenser in every floor as well as a lounge with a couch, TV and a table tennis table to enjoy some relaxing time. The onsen was awesome! Wifi worked well.

JapanWe got room B which had a beautiful tub but it wasn’t hot spring. I wish they could do something about this. Also, the hotel is on a steep hill, a little tiring to and from.
The rooms are spacious! We got the B room. The communal onsen had lots of amenities such us hair ties and basic skin care.

GermanyThe way to the train station is super steep, you can’t really do this with luggage (taxi for < 1000 yen is necessary). No elevator - you have to go in the second floor to the nicer apartments!
We booked the apartment with own onsen which was super nice; highly recommended. You can buy some noodle cups in the entrance if you are to lazy to go to the next restaurant in the centre

Hong KongWe arrived by train. Hotel location not easy to find and need to walk uphill. We travelled with backpack so it was not a problem with us to walk to the hotel. Would be better if hotel can provide information regarding how to walk from train station to the hotel.

CanadaThe location is a bit hard to reach if you have mobility issue. The hotel is actually located on a steep hill behind the train station. If you are out of shape and too cheap to get a taxi to go back to the hotel, it's a hard walk (don't follow Google Map's suggestion and take the route to the right of the train station exit, that's actually the harder of the 2 route). The road is extremely narrow and I don't recommend driving to the property yourself. The hotel itself does not have an elevator so it's not friendly for those with mobility issue. Finally, a bit disappointed the tub was not a cypress wood tub.
The room was clean and the bed is very comfy. There is a washer and a drying rack in the room. The TV is hooked up with Amazon TV but the shows are mostly Japanese. The room with the outdoor hot spring is actually in a separate annex and it's closer to a suite than just a room. The hot spring source is extremely hot but does not have a heavy mineral smell. There is a rooftop terrace with a decent view of the shoreline and I would love to see it during firework season. The manager is extremely helpful! I backed my rental car into a rock wall (area have very narrow road, see the Con section). And by the rental agreement, I had to call the police to file a report in order not to void the insurance coverage. While he couldn't speak English, using a translation tool, he manage to call the police and made sure I was at ease.

JapanThe room aircon wasn't great. It didn't seem to cut out in heating mode and even though set to 20C ran full on for an hour while I was in the bath making the room uncomfortably warm. There may be an issue with the thermostat. The process for checking in is a little needlessly complex with redundant inputting of information already found on Booking and then online with a separate form and then again upon arrival. Some of that may be the fault of the government subsidy program in place in late 2022/2023. Location is fine but it is not anywhere near the beach and it's tiring to get there from the station, esp. if you had a suitcase.
I stayed at the attached building which has rooms with semi-exposed baths and are a bit separated from each other. The room was spacious with two comfortable fairly large beds. There wasn't an ocean view at this angle but there was a little yard area outside and trees in the distance. The room and building were very well renovated and felt modern and comfortable. There is a lounge area with ping pong and tabletop games. You can even use it after checkout. There is a little makeup area and kitchen area that are hidden behind closet-like doors. That's a great idea as you can close them when not needed and the room looks nicer. The TV is huge if you have occasion to use it. It's not a far walk from here to MOA though it is uphill.

JapanWe had informed the hotel we would be using the grill on the roof terrace beforehand, but we had to carry all the cooking equipment/crockery etc from the main kitchen (4 floors) and cleanliness of the prep table on the roof was sub-standard. It was ok for us, because we were a big group with lots of helping hands, but expected better.
The rooms were spacious and clean. Great function room with table tennis, board games and TV for hanging out with friends. Onsen was well equipped. Although it was fully-booked, we didn't really see or hear any of the other guests. We also used the BBQ grill on the terrace. The one staff we saw on duty there was very helpful even though he seemed to be overwhelmed with multi-tasking. They were very accomodating with our requests.

AustriaWish there were some more food options offered on the spot. At least breakfast. The staff does offer some food delivery suggestions and there are some things one can buy in their "reception shop" but I still think a small restoraunt on the place would have been great. Besides that it was perfect.
We loved our stay here. The room we booked was more of a traditional looking wooden house and the private onsen tub was spectacular. It rained heavily when we were there so the bathing was not possible for the large part of the day; but luckily the clouds cleared just in time. The beds were fantastic. The location is on a bit of a steeper hill but if you are in a relatively good shape and not carrying multiple enourmous suitcases it is really not that big of a deal.
