Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesAlthough our room didn’t have a window (only a skylight), it didn’t feel claustrophobic. Our other (daughters’) room had a window. Design-wise, both were beautiful and functional.
Exceptionally clean, modern, comfortable. Excellent service from staff, we felt totally pampered. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Full American breakfast plus more on buffet. Fresh pastries every morning and special orange pound cake. Everything felt slightly more upscale in quality from the bedding to the toiletries. Good, central location. We would definitely stay there again and tell our friends as well.

United KingdomMy husband and I booked Auberge Azabu for 2 nights in May 2025 as part of our honeymoon trip. The ryokan was outstanding - from the complimentary tea and cake on arrival, to the fast laundry service, the beautiful traditional room and spotless building and garden, and the breakfast that was tailormade. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive - truly outstanding customer service and the best we experienced on a trip that included 6 cities and where we experienced a high level of service throughout. While we found Kyoto quite busy particularly in the very touristy areas and for some of the popular restaurants, we enjoyed this city immensely. We would recommend going to the Fushimi Inari shrine after dark when it is all lit up, visiting the monkey park (it’s worth the uphill hike!), and checking out the local izakaya restaurant/bars near the ryokan for a fun evening.

United StatesIf I had to "complain" about one thing, it would only be the height of the sink in our room. As it's designed to match the height of the attached makeup vanity counter, it's not an ideal height for standing. I am not tall at all and I had to resort to sitting in the vanity chair to brush my teeth and wash my face to avoid back pain from bending so far over and to prevent water from splashing out too much. A minor inconvenience in my opinion.
Staff were incredibly hospitable. They can help you make restaurant reservations and offer luggage forwarding service to your next destination which we used. The location was quiet, a convenient 4-5 minute walk from Gojo Station, which is 1 stop away from Kyoto Station. We got the room downstairs with direct access to our own private garden at the back of the property, though we couldn't use it since it rained throughout our stay. Room was very clean and had a modern minimalist vibe with Japanese aesthetics of course. Unlike most other ryokans, they serve a Western style breakfast. While I was originally looking forward to a kaiseki style breakfast, it turned out to be ideal since we were eating solely Japanese food for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Having a western style meal was a nice respite. Make sure you order your eggs scrambled! It's wonderful on a piece of toast. Overall, a lovely experience and would definitely reccommend.

South AfricaThere was only one night available!
Everything! From the friendly receptionist, Anna, and the welcome green tea and matcha cake upon our arrival, the beautiful ryokan, with all the added touches, to the delicious breakfast served by Eriko complete with a tasting of dessert wine to compliment the experience. Not to forget the personal care and gift of incense as well as a gorgeous picture taken to mark this experience. What a delightful venue, Auberge Azabu! Arigato!

United StatesThe whole experience was exceptional! From the moment we enter to the moment we left we simply loved it. Their hospitality is incredible and you really just feel welcomed. Breakfast was amazing and it was so nice to exchange some words in both French and Italian with the chef, you can clearly see that they spent some years in France and it was so beautiful to see it reflected on their dishes. I have asked for a cake for my fiancée's birthday and they kindly propose to make it (for a very reasonable fee), it was delicious and home-made! We loved the room, so cosy, traditional and modern at the same time. I never gave 10 before but this place truly deserve it! We didn't want to leave it! Merci beacoup pour tout! :)

United KingdomThere was nothing that we would improve here, everything was faultless.
The owner and hosts were superb! Nothing was too much and they took great pride and pleasure in suggesting areas to explore and learn about. They also left little touches for when we arrived and took our cases to our room which arrived ahead of us too. The room was immaculate, very well presented and spacious. Breakfast was to personal choice from a small menu and always started the day well. This was part of our honeymoon in Japan and this made it really special.

RomaniaIt shows that they really care about their guests! Daily super cleaning of the room, in the room they give everything you could possibly need to feel cosy. Because we had quite cold weather, they started the heater in the room before we arrived every night, so we find a cosy atmosphere. We did not ask for it, but, they read our mind:) The breakfast is nutritious and the food is of very good quality! The metro and bus station are 3 minutes away, you have shops/bars super close. As we say in Romania, they put their heart in everything they do. They also speak English:)
