How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHad a lovely summer weekend getaway at this B&B. Kayuki and Kei-san were extremely welcoming and made our stay very comfortable. You can really feel their care and passion in running this place. Our room had a lovely ocean view, and while the shower room is shared, there aren't too many guests staying at one time that you have to worry about occupancy. Breakfast was healthy and amazing and available from 7-9am. Shirahama beach is in walkable distance, but there's also a bus stop just 2-3 minutes nearby.
I have nothing to complain about at all, but just a warning for those with mobility issues that the b&b is on quite a steep hill. Recommend to pack lightly!

Verified reviewKabuki and Keita have created a welcoming and comfortable space for travelers. The room was simple and perfect with a comfy bed, small table with lamp and wash area. The breakfast was probably the best I’ve ever had — not just in Japan, but ever! So much care in every detail with homemade and fresh yogurt, granola, breads and juices. The generous breakfast kept me full until afternoon! They were helpful with suggestions for the area. The central location is great — can walk to most places in Shirahama and near many restaurants and cafes. They also run a small cafe. I loved the care and attention to details. If in Shirahama again I would only stay here!

Verified reviewThe property is a 10minute Walk to shirarahama beach. The tourist spots in this island are close to each other so if your comfortable walking then you’ll be fine. You also have the option to rent a car if there’s any. If not, you can rent a bike from cogicogi.Fyi, it is near a coin laundry station that’s open from 5am til 12midnight. The owners served me a healthy breakfast for my 2 night stay and I’m happy to able to experience their hospitality. Thanks once again :)

Verified reviewSampark means friends and is run by one of the friendliest couples I've ever met. We started the day with yoga at the temple near the B&B and then had an incredibly healthy breakfast overlooking the ocean. It is a treasure that is well worth a visit. And the town Shirahama has a lot to offer

Verified reviewThe hosts were a very warm and helpful couple. The breakfast was beyond terrific. The room was clean as was the shower and bathroom. The hosts were very helpful setting up taxis, recommending a restaurant, and arranging attendance in a yoga session at the Buddish temple Nextdoor. Is someone doesn't require their own private toilet or shower, I would recommend this B&B. By the way, the food was very healthy.

Verified reviewExceptional hospitality awaits you here! The food is sensational, culinary delights you will not forget. The view from the room overlooking the sea is mind-soothing, so are the optional morning meditations in the temple right next door. Particularily suitable for solo travellers I find, the cheerful and attentive hosts are locals and will direct you with great interest. I will come back!

Verified reviewThis is a great place to stay. The hosts are delightful - they are helpful and friendly and also speak enough English to make everything smooth. Breakfast was quite special, and different, every day. The location is very convenient - a short walk from Fisherman's Wharf but in a quiet street. I think the rooms themselves are nicer than in the pictures - I expected a small bedroom but ours was actually quite spacious with a seating area, storage space and a bathroom sink. The whole place is quite stylish.

Verified review- Very kind, lovely and helpful owner couple - Extremly comfortable bed and bedding (for my taste) - Very clean - The café has a modern feeling, is nicely decorated and inviting to chill out - Morning chanting and yoga in the temple next door was a nice experience
- It’s not negative but we would have liked to have some options to choose from for breakfast (it changes every day and it is nice, but it’s a set meal)

Verified reviewThis tiny B and B is very special. If you happen to be in Shirahama, you really should stay here. Everything is done with impeccable taste and great care and thoughtfulness. The cafe serves excellent coffee, home-made pastries, and a few small plates. The breakfast is healthy and beautiful. And the rooms are sparkling clean and well equipped. I think that all have a view of the ocean. The couple that owns Sampark is wonderful and kind and generous. Summary: a truly exceptional place.
While there is a shared shower and separate shared toilets, both shower and toilets were perfect and super clean. Also, every room has water and a sink. I seldom stay in a hotel without an en suite bathroom, but I did not even notice any inconvenience in this case.
