How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe owner is very kind! She welcomed us with a map of attractions and suggestions of where to go. She uses an easy translator to help in your needed language. So very thoughtful! The hotel is very clean and quiet. We appreciated the family style room for our family of 5. The beaches of Shirahama are beautiful and worth the extra travel!
When using booking.com you may get confused on which room you are selecting. Details are important, do not depend on the photos alone as each room has a few differences.

Verified reviewThe hotel did not have all rooms with a Western off the floor bed. The information at Booking.com was VERY UNCLEAR that this was not specified. I did not want a Japanese sleep on the floor futon and when this was discovered there were no rooms with a bed. When you look at the booking it shows rooms with beds .. not sleep on the floor. The manager was very nice and tried to help with this but also everything had to be translated.

Verified reviewBreakfasts were prepared and presented with such care and the quality was excellent. The fish rice porridge was particularly tasty. Each day of our the day stay there was something different and all were wonderful. The location is excellent, easy walk to the beach and many restaurants. The hotel has a few ebikes to rent and a bunch of beach items that you can use like shade tents and umbrellas and inflatable tubes.

Verified reviewA very nice family run Inn. The lady at the front was delightful to talk to. She was very caring for people who might be tired from travelling a long way, which reflects the selection of breakfast provisions. Good amount, nutritious, tasty and warm. We all loved the generous size of shower room although there was not a bathtub.
We should have stayed more than a night!

Verified reviewI am impressed by the hospitality of the staffs. They are kind and helpful. My mother left a handbag and they contacted the travel agent right away to inform me. We got the handbag back very quickly. The room is spacious, clean, and comfortable. The location is very close to the beach and other restaurants in the area. The staff also informed us a local festival at the beach as well. I also enjoy the breakfast here. Quite unique from other places. We got dim sum and clam porridge. The side assortments like tofu skin and pickles are very well flavored. A kick of chili oil helps the dish exciting! Thank you for your great service!

Verified reviewThe hotel is really nice and beautifully decorated with lots of panda stuff toys. The room is large, and room facilities are new. The lady owner is also very friendly & gave lots of suggestions on places to dine. Breakfast was delicious and well worth the money. Hotel has easy access to beach and bus. It is just 5 mins walk from Shirahama Bus Centre.

Verified reviewThe staff are very friendly and accomodating. I requested an early check-in and had no problem. Location is great with lots of good cafe and restaurant in the area.
The bed feels a bit hard but that is only based on my preferences.
