Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We just loved everything. Set just a few steps away from the sea down a quiet little road and hidden behind trees. Bird is a beautiful, small, excpetionally clean, modern hotel. You will just fall in love with it. And the help and assistance we had to get us on a 5am train to the airport was beyond kind. We couldnt get a taxi that our early so the hotel kindly drove us to the station - we are so very grateful. Thank you. We didnt want to leave.

United KingdomThis is a hotel that allows dogs. Unfortunately, there is quite a lot of barking - when we registered, at dinner and whilst we were in our room; including in the early morning. It's not really the hotels fault - more bad pet ownership. But be aware - if barking disturbs you then look elsewhere.
Lovely location and very easy to find. A modern, low rise building set in a beautiful garden. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and gracious. Our room was big and had everything we needed. A good size shower and lovely comfortable beds. The food was fresh and imaginative - really enjoyed our evening taster meal and breakfast.

United StatesIt's a beautiful serene hotel with a very refined and zen vibe on a quiet street. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. The hotel has the design aesthetics of a very high end resort while being reasonably priced. We really enjoyed the hot bath. The terrace area is lovely for having breakfasts or just drinks. The hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes away by train from the main Kamukura train station. The same train that runs from the main station to the hotel also goes to the train station serving the Enoshima Island. From the hotel, it's a short walk to many charming restaurants, cafes, and stores in town, many serving snacks and desserts that have a unique local favor. We also enjoyed running on the beach front trail which is about 100 feet from the hotel. There is a stunning view of Mt. Fuji on the trail.

United StatesStayed with adult daughter. Bird Hotel is exceptional! Walking distance to water, restaurants, and temples. We enjoy walking. The design and calm atmosphere of hotel is outstanding. Delicious Japanese breakfast and soothing private hot bath (reserve). The professional and friendly staff allowed us to keep our luggage the hotel day of checkout. They were sympathetic to our needs after hawk and crows swooped down and stole our sushi. Don’t eat food on the beach! Highly Bird Hotel as will recommend to all and will stay again on next visit to Kamakura.

United StatesThe coffee in the morning was rough (bitter). I'm not sure if it was the coffee itself or the amount used, I feel like it was the former. The Bird's kitchen is all about supporting local and artisanal producers; they might need to look for another coffee roaster to support.
What a delight! Wonderful location (easily reachable by public transit), close to the beach, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, beautiful and simple decor. The most comfortable bed of our entire trip in Japan. It was warm enough during our stay in October to be able to have breakfasts and dinners outside, which made it feel like summer, only without the crowds. Japanese friends from Tokyo came down for dinner with me and each made a note to come back again for a stay. I never wanted to leave!

Staff were exceedingly helpful with need to divert travel plans d/t typhoon- the front desk gentleman went above and beyond to have our luggage transferred from our hotel in Osaka (where we had forwarded it before going to Kamakura) to a different hotel in Tokyo (where we had to divert to get flight home and avoid typhoon related issues at KIX). Location close to train station Breakfast is very fresh and made when ordered- Japanese and Western options available I did not use it but was told by other group members that the tub/onsen-like bath was very relaxing. Rooms are extraordinarily spacious
