Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyWhile it was pleasant in the dorm space, it did get quite hot within the sleeping capsule itself (a bit more so than at other dorms and capsule hotels). The futons and pillows were also quite hard/rough, more so than what we've experienced so far in Japan. If you like a hard surface to sleep on like me, it won't be too much of an issue. Otherwise, it might take some adjusting at first.
Location: The location is absolutely perfect, as you are located right at Higashimuki, which is one of the main shopping streets of Nara. You are also right by Kintetsu-Nara station, as well as the entrance to the Nara Park complex (including Todai-ji, Kōfuku-ji, Kasuga-taisha, and several museums). The large Sanjo-dori shopping street is also within your immediate vicinity. There are cafes, restaurants and convenience stores all around the hostel as well, so all your basic needs will definitely be covered. Amenities: The showers and bathroom were very clean and modern. Towels etc. were of high quality. Staff: The staff was very kind and attentive. One staff member actually called out to us just outside the building, as we initially walked past the actual entrance to the hostel. He then led us to the reception and also called over some other staff to take care of us, very pleasant experience overall. The lady at the reception also spoke perfect English, which is actually quite uncommon among the wide variety of hostels in Japan that we've stayed at - that's probably another big plus for some guests, who may feel a bit lost when only being able to rely on Japanese or digital translation services to take care of check-in processes. Lounge area: The lounge area was fairly spacious and very pleasant. There were lots of seats, enabling you to either work on your own stuff or engage with other hostel guests in conversation. There was also a high quality drinking water dispenser, as well as a fridge and some free amenities. Also located in the lounge area was a specific work capsule that you could use/rent to work in, without worrying about being affected by noise or causing too much noise yourself. There were also two large luggage areas to store your luggage during either pre-check-in or post-check-out periods.

FinlandBed wasnt the comfiest - quite a thin layer of padding. But the dormitory itself was cozy and quiet
Great staff, very friendly. The most social vibe in any of the hostels I stayed in Japan. Great location, few blocks from the Nara station, very near the deer park. They had umbrellas to lend during a rainy day as well!

United StatesLack of staff is okay for hotels, but for hostels, I prefer having someone on staff for orientation. No major issue, but just a preference.
Bare bones hostel style accomodations. No staff on hand, but that doesn't necessarily pose a problem. There is a closet to leave luggage for the day after checkout, which was a great bonus. It's not locked or even watched, so leave luggage at your own risk.

IsraelNo staff. The bed number was waiting for us at the reception and we left money in an envelope - there is no one to contact if there is a problem and if you want to pay in cash you must leave it exactly. In addition, the thinnest chives we've had in Japan!!!
Amazing showers! The best ones we got to use in a hostel in Japan. Hot water, great current, heating and a place to organize!

JapanIt can be a bit difficult to find. Also, some other guests don't respect the rules, such as always being quiet in the dormitory's sleeping area. This includes conversations at 5 a.m.
The hostel was well located in Nara. It is easy to get to all of Nara's historical sites. The hostel is also very close to the Nara-Kintetsu station, meaning it is easy to get to Kyoto and Osaka.

New ZealandEverything was great
Great location, within walking distance to all the main attractions. Very quiet, with everything that you can possibly need. Great cheap laundromat, really good bathroom facilities, very clean, you even have a soundproof cabin in case you need to work remotely. Best value for money and lovely staff. They upgraded my bed and let me check in earlier. Thanks a lot for that!

HungaryThe room smells horrible. I guess they dont have ventillation or something like this. Very crowded place, the microwave is pretty disgusting. Literally everyone from the street could go to the luggage and kitchen are so I dont know how safe you would rate it. Bathroom is wet, full with hair. I wouldnt stay there again.

SwitzerlandIt did not bother me, but the wifi is not the best at times, and you can feel the vibration/noise from the gym underneath.
Everything is organised, and you have access to everything promised (common room with microwave and kettle, bathrooms and hair dryer, washing machine, bed and space underneath to put your luggages). The check-in and out procedures are simple.
