Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

LithuaniaThe lack of general cleanliness. The privacy curtains were so dusty, the bed linen as well, air conditioning had mildew on it.
Right around the corner of the Kurokabe glass district and shopping street, this quaint little guest house gives a glimpse of old style Japanese housing. The self check in process was clear and simple.

PolandVery steep stairs (even for a japanese standards) and rather tight everywhere. The beds are locked, they are like a small closets—while very safe, the airflow was nonexistent, so I had to pick if I want to sleep in a hot, stuffy cubicle or with a doors wide open (aside from a hard door, there wasn't any curtain)
Safe, clean, great location, big and comfortable beds, plenty of space in a room. The building itself looks very nice.

JapanNot a big thing, but if you fully close the door to your bunk, there's no way for AC to get in and it'll be quite hot. I just left mine open. Also, beware the stairs! They're super steep and I had trouble getting my luggage up and down.
Aesthetically, this hostel is beautiful and totally suits the traditional townscape. Each room is also beautifully designed and very comfortable. The bathrooms are fully stocked and there is a dedicated bathroom & shower for women. Each room is locked with a key, and each bunk has a separate key as well. The staff who greeted me was SO, so nice, and spoke fluent English. Finally, the location is amazing- very close walk to the station and right next to the Kurokabe area.

GermanyThe lounge area is a bit small and can get a bit cramped with several people. And there is no person from the hostel on site which makes it difficult to ask questions. Check in was a bit complicated
The hostel is clean and a good place to stay to sleep.

Hong KongInside cubicle bed is dark, needs stronger lighting. Has some some lights but I still had to use my phone light inside. Hopefully next time I go back Hide san has fixed this :-)
The owner Hide san is really kind; offered to help with luggage up stairs (it's very narrow so if you have too big heavy luggage might be an issue) and gave heaps of travel advice around the Nagahama area and Biwu lake. He made guests feel welcomed and always ready to have a chat in the small but cozy cafe area! As for the place itself, it is a renovated old house, has that "Japanese" feel and architecture. The corridors are a bit narrow but the dorm room was very spacious. The cubicle was huge! No lockers but since the cubicle was so big, you can lock up your valuables in your bed. Bathroom was small (the standard Japanese size) but very new and clean. Internet was very fast, no kitchen area but have water dispenser and microwave. You can message them to let them know what time you arrive, but it is self checkin, so they will send you instructions on the day. Definitely not a party hostel. But if you want a quiet, clean and comfortable stay; then this place is right for you. Nice place, would have loved to stayed longer!

JapanThere is no bicycle parking and no basic amenities like shampoo or body soup. So you need to bring your own or pay for a few.

United StatesThe host made it nearly impossible to stay there. It felt like a scam. They make you jump a million hoops before they “allow” you on the property. They refuse to help in anyway and appear to be running multiple listings for the same property.

SpainThe location was excellent, but there were many issues. The amenities box was almost empty, the shower room didn't have tissues left, the shower itself was full of hairs, there was a lingering weird smell everywhere. We didn't get notified of how to check out, the check-in was very impersonal, only getting a message on booking. The security also left us worried, as one of our beds could not be closed on one side, leaving the sliding door open to anyone. Overall a bad experience.

FranceThe self check in procedure was a bit confusing and some instructions only got to my phone after my arrival in the common area, but that was solved quickly and in no way impacted my stay.
The cozy common area, cleanliness of the rooms, cleanliness of the toilets and showers, the ideal location within Nagahama, the welcoming staff, the music played in the living area, everything was pretty much perfect and I would gladly stay there again.

Austria. there is nothing to say
The place is just beautiful and it was one of my best stays during my trip so far. The host is very friendly, caring and hospitable. I felt very comfortable and at home from the very beginning. In the evenings, when it happens, we enjoyed a little get together with the other guests. The rooms are well organized, spacious and the beds are very comfortable. Each bed has a sliding element that can be locked. The showers and sanitary facilities are also very well maintained and there you find everything you need. The accommodation is in a super location, close to the train station, to the beautiful alleys of Nagahama, restaurants, bars, supermarket and also to the castle. Nagahama in general is a hidden gem. I highly recommend to leave Kyoto or other places to come here for a trip. You definitely won't regret it. Furthermore you can go by train for a day trip to Shizugatake which has very nice view over two lakes. Or rent a bike to ride or just walk along the biwa lake. There are many things to do. I stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect. I will definitely come back. (: Thank you for making it so special.
