Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI adored this hotel, it was recently renovated and so clean, well designed and peaceful. I had a lovely view of the canal. I booked a room with a shared bathroom, therefore I was very suprised when my room actually had an individual toilet and a separate sink area with a mirror. The room was also beautiful and having Netflix was a welcome addition. The room amenities were fantastic, they had everything I could have needed. Location fabulous, in the centre of town, close to the train station, and a couple of minutes walk from the first of the seven Onsen's. I look forward to returning.

JapanCannot think of anything.
Building was newly renovated and combined traditional with modern minimalist vibes. Location was perfect center of town and next door to Jizoyu onsen. Staff were outstanding hosts spoke English and always available to assist. Breakfast was excellent and varied from daily. Featuring koshihikari rice made in a donabe and fresh egg for TKG!The private onsen and sauna were excellent. If you have never stayed in a traditional Onsen Ryokan, Akaishiya will spoil you and be your reference point going forward.

Hiro was amazing. He gave us a tour of everything in our room, showed us the correct way to wear yukata, and we werent expecting this but his English was absolutely perfect. The room had an amazing view and the beds were comfortable. I had my first traditional breakfast there and it was so delicious and filling and it was so peaceful eating with the view of the garden.

CanadaThe staff greeted us at the door, sat down with us at the desk, brought us to our room and made us feel extremely welcome. Our window opened out onto the street and the river, where we fell asleep listening to the quiet "clip clop" of the Geta sandals, as the Onsen goers walked the street. Amazing!

The staff were incredibly friendly and warm, and they helped us with everything we needed. Our room also included an onsen pass, which was a great bonus. The location was also very convenient.

Also wonderful to access a private onsen in the hotel, and getting a traditional Japanese breakfast. Staff was awesome, helpful with my many questions about public onsen, also very hardworking to make experience great. Doing everything right!

United StatesThe booking wasn’t very clear about what to expect as far as showers are concerned. The room did not have a shower. You had to book a private 90 minute sauna in order to take a shower which cost 5000 yen and was booked until so late that we didn’t want to shower anymore. It is only open for guests with no reservations in the morning; which was when we were visiting the nearby onsens. So, we didn’t use a shower at the hotel.
The location is amazing. The rooms were extremely comfortable with great views. Breakfast exceeded our expectations. Best breakfast we’ve had in the 2 weeks in Japan so far. The staff were helpful with making dinner reservations and accommodating our travel needs.

NetherlandsIf you want to use the in-house-bath in the evening you have to pay an extra fee….considering what you already pay for the room, I find this ridiculous. Besides, one of the in total six onsens in Kinosaki is literally next door…..just as easy to go there.
The hotel is very centrally located…the onsens, shops and restaurants are all in walking distance. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel/rooms must have been recently renovated….everything looked and even smelled new….all very stylish.

PhilippinesOur stay at Akaishiya Ryokan was truly the highlight of our month-long honeymoon in Japan. From the moment we arrived—amid heavy snowfall and quite late due to the lack of direct trains to Kinosaki Onsen—we were met with unparalleled hospitality. The ryokan’s location is ideal, just a short 5-minute walk from Kinosaki Onsen Station, making it incredibly convenient even in the snow. Upon arrival, the reception team went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Despite the late hour, the receptionist promptly replied to our inquiries during transit and stayed up late to personally check us in—a level of service you rarely find elsewhere, especially in Japan, where many stays have fixed reception hours. Our room was stunning, offering a serene view of the river that was even more magical in the snow. The atmosphere was cozy, clean, and well-appointed with all the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay. Breakfast at Akaishiya was absolutely delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Each morning, we were treated to a delightful spread of traditional Japanese dishes, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. It was the perfect way to start our day of exploring the town’s famous onsen. The ryokan’s attention to detail made our stay even more comfortable. They provided yukatas, boots, and umbrellas for us to use while going around town, which was incredibly helpful given the heavy snow. It allowed us to enjoy the charm of Kinosaki Onsen without any inconvenience. What truly set Akaishiya apart was the exceptional service. The receptionist, in particular, deserves special recognition. Not only did he assist us during check-in and throughout our stay, but he also went out of his way to help with our luggage transport. Since the ryokan didn’t arrange it, he personally went with us, helped bring our bags to Family Mart, and helped process the transport. This level of care and dedication is something we’ll never forget.
