Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaLocated in a hill with a great view. Very spacious room with a pleasant surprise of jacuzzi bathtub. So thoughtful to put two big sofa beside the big window for a relax viewing of the lake. Will recommend my friends to stay here.

United StatesThe view from the second floor is phenomenal, and our room had a bathtub overlooking Lake Toya. The opposite side even had a beautiful view of Mt Yotei as well. Both rooms we booked were very spacious and comfortable. Most importantly, we were incredibly impressed with the friendly and helpful attitude of the staff. Our car was almost out of gas, and we were unsure if we could make it back down to Toyako Onsen area to refuel. After discussing our options with Umada-san at the front desk, he offered to drive down to get some gas to refuel our tank. Despite offering him payment several times, he insisted on not accepting it. We deeply appreciate his kind gesture and would definitely return for the great value, incredible views, and wonderful service.

GermanyWe had to wait quite a while till the room was finished even though we didn’t arrive before the official check-in time. Nothing too serious but still a bit annoying
Really modern and spacious room with top notch bed, shower, toilet etc… The view was stunning even from the first floor. Also liked the ice cube machine in the kitchen area

SingaporeWhat I didn’t like: Too remote, even with a car. Having to change into their slippers even though the staff told me she has cleaned all the slippers before they’re given out to us. Each guest is designated a locker to keep their shoes and the slippers provided. So you will use the same pair of slippers throughout your stay. Bathroom window has no blinds. It’s open view. Whoah! There are only two floors. Only the rooms on the first floor have no windows in the bathrooms. We were on the second floor which has good views. Even though the buildings opposite are very far away and you probably would not need to worry that anyone can see you from there, the ground directly outside the room is very close and should anyone be standing outside will have a very clear view of you bathing. There’s an insect crawling in the bathroom! The carpet is black so you won’t be able to spot it if there’s any insect around. To the property, I’m sorry about the negative but honest reviews. Otherwise, i think it’s worth the money.
What I liked: Big and clean room Big and clean bathroom Nice lake view from the the rooms Good amenities Nice, helpful staff Provides very good maps of the area

New ZealandSlightly out of the way - a short drive from the main lakefront. Not a problem if you have a car though. Be careful when driving in the fog / rain as visibility on the road can be low. No elevator so you’ll have to carry luggage up a single flight of stairs.
Massive rooms - the bathroom alone was bigger than some other hotel rooms on our trip. Beautiful lake views from the room. Very relaxing and quiet place to stay. Would stay here again.

United StatesThe only downside is that you do need to drive into town for dinner.
Hotel Cocoa has a lovely view over Lake Toya. At night, we left our window open (screen door shut) and heard wonderful sounds of birds and insects chirping through the night. The hotel was very comfortable as well.

SingaporeThe hotel was still undergoing some final touch-ups when we arrived, with workers continuing renovations. We had to remove our shoes before entering, which appears to be a hotel policy rather than a renovation requirement. This is slightly inconvenient for us. The location is quite far from Lake Toya and not accessible without a car. If you get hungry, the only option is a vending machine. Honestly, unless I’m driving and want to take advantage of the lower room rates, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
This is a brand new hotel. Loved that the facilities are all modern and well-maintained. There’s no onsen, but the bathtub was lovely. Highly recommend getting a bath bomb to improve your hot tub experience.

AustraliaIt didn’t have a lift/ elevator to the upper level. You need to carry your bags up the stairs to the second level.
The bedroom was large and comfortable and there was a common area with a spectacular view, a microwave, tea and coffee making facilities, crockery and cutlery. It had a very friendly and welcoming feel.

AustraliaAmazing hotel which exceeded our expectations! Is a little out of Lake Toya main town but had excellent views over the lake due to its higher vantage point. Rooms were also larger than other hotels in Japan. Also bonus: Lake Hill Farm right next door - cafe, ice cream and nice views as well.

ThailandWe had such a great experience staying at the resort. The resort itself is located not so far from Lake Toya area which we can reach by car. Lake Hill Farm is just steps away and we can enjoy playing snow nearby the resort. The only one thing we need is that we have to lift our huge suitcases up to the staircase because there is no elevator to go to the second floor. However, we would love to return to stay here if we have chance to.
