Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaLovely accommodation in a historic building in an old street. Shogo was very welcoming and I found the stay to be very relaxing. Added bonus was being able to watch a thunderstorm come in over the river thanks to the panoramic windows of the room. Would happily stay there again in the future.

GermanyThe place is double of a gem: beautifully refurbished traditional Japanese merchant’s house in the middle of the historical street of Gojo. The village may skip most of Western travelers - they miss out a most picturesque and diligently revived village history amidst lush green and afoot the Wakayama hills.

LuxembourgWe had an unforgettable stay at Satsuki! The host is truly a heartwarming person – incredibly kind, caring, and always there when you need help. After we got lost while hiking, he kindly came to pick us up. We also had some amazing, heartfelt conversations with him – such a beautiful and thoughtful soul! He speaks perfect English and gave us great insider tips and restaurant recommendations. Thanks to him, we had the best Okonomiyaki at a nearby local spot – so delicious and unique! It was a completely different experience from Tokyo, where things often felt more impersonal. Here, everything was filled with warmth and sincerity. We also enjoyed a typical Japanese breakfast, which was simple, delicious, and such a special experience. It’s those little moments that make a Japan trip feel truly complete and authentic. The house is cozy, peaceful, and perfect for hiking. There are supermarkets nearby, and the whole area has a romantic and relaxing vibe. It’s an ideal place for couples, nature lovers, or anyone seeking a quiet break from the big cities. We felt completely at home and are already looking forward to coming back. Thank you for making our stay so special – this place and its people will stay in our hearts!

NetherlandsThe hotel is a great place to stay, a real recommandation. It is in a renovated historic building in a cute street with traditional houses (one of the main attractions in Gojo) parallel to the riverfront, you can walk along. The room was modern, spacious and very confortable with a riverside view. There is also a nice communal space with all the facilities, where you can make breakfast or dinner. The owner was very kind and helpful with suggesting and reserving places to eat and to sightsee. The place is nicely located in between and not far from attractions such as the temples at Koyasan, the blossoms at Yoshino, and archaeological sites at Akusa.

Beautifully converted machiya in the centre of the historic district of Gojo. Absolutely incredible view over the river and mountains. The host gave perfect recommendations (go where he tells you, the Okonomiyaki and the cocktail bar were excellent) and even reserved places for us. A really exceptional and kind host who had thought of lots of ways to ensure the stay was perfect. Can’t say enough wonderful things, one of the best places we’ve stayed in Japan and definitely the best host. Only wish we’d stayed longer!

Beautiful property and the host was amazing. He was so nice and gave amazing recommendations. He called a restaurant to make a reservation for which he recommended and it was one of the best yakiniku places we’ve been to. We also went out to a karaoke bar with him and we had a great time! It was a nice property but the host made the experience even better!

AustraliaThis is a beautifully renovated old house in a quiet street of historic houses. A pleasant 10 minute walk to the station. We had a very spacious room with a view of the river behind and across to the hills.. The kitchen/dining area was well equipped. We were pleased that we had chosen here as a base for a day trip up to Koyasan.

GermanyIt's not so close to Koyasan as I thought, but it was my mistake not to calculate the distance exactly
Very nice building in typical Japanese style with large rooms and spacious shared kitchen/living-room located in a very small calm historic village. The accommodation is close to the train station (10 minute walk) and to the public Onsen. The owner was really kind and helpuful about our stay and also for train transfers tips. Thanks a lot to Shoko ;-) who speaks perfect english too.

NetherlandsNot a lot of options for eating out in the evening in the area, so research that we'll...we went to a couple of places and were turned away or they were closed. There is a Michelin-starred place in the street...
A recently renovated traditional building, maintaining its original elegance. Huge, comfortable but sparsely furnished rooms, in a beautiful old street next to a pretty river. The owner speaks great English, but we didn't meet him or anybody actually during our two day stay, though we did chat with some of the other guests.
