How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt smells like an old hotel.
Thank you for staying at our hotel. We apologize for causing you discomfort due to the smell in the room. Our hotel is already about 15 years old. Depending on the circumstances of the previous day's guests, we deodorize the rooms during cleaning, but as this is done on an irregular basis, it is possible that the odor was not completely removed. We will focus even more on room maintenance in the future. Thank you for your feedback.

Verified reviewOverall, the property was good no real issues there
Only thing I really had an issue with and it’s in most Japanese hotels. The beds are very hard, but I think that’s just the Japanese thing.
Thank you very much for staying at our hotel and for sharing your feedback with us. We are delighted to hear that you were satisfied with our facilities and services overall. We appreciate your valuable feedback regarding the firmness of our beds, which is a characteristic of Japanese hotels. We hope you will stay with us again when you visit Japan.

Verified reviewThe hotel is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Kannai Station, making it easy to get around Yokohama. We loved having Komeda Cafe and Saizeriya next door, with Sukiya just across the street—plenty of dining options right at our doorstep. Check-in was smooth, and the receptionist spoke English, which was helpful. Our room on the 10th floor (the highest level) was spacious, with a standard double bed, a small table, and a sofa. There was enough space to open our luggage comfortably. Bathroom was roomy, and all amenities could be picked up at the reception area. The hotel maintains the consistent standard we’ve come to expect from Daiwa Roynet Hotels across Japan
The water flow in the bathtub was slow, which made filling it take longer than expected. The room came with only one pillow per person, which wasn’t quite enough for a comfortable rest.
Thank you very much for staying at the Daiwa Roynet Hotel Yokohama Kannai. We are very pleased that your stay at our hotel was to your satisfaction. Our hotel is about 5 minutes away from Yokohama Station by train, which we believe is ideal for sightseeing. However, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the flow of hot water in the bathroom. We will make every effort to provide a relaxing environment for our guests by reinforcing our post-cleaning inspection. Thank you also for your valuable feedback regarding the pillows. We will take your valuable feedback into consideration and work to make our hotel even better in the future. We hope you will visit our hotel again when you are in the neighborhood.

Verified reviewnot much
The room was not at all like the pictures on their website. It was tiny, worn, dated, dirty, and had a little saggy bed pushed into the corner like a fleabag hotel. When we complained, they charged us more for a slightly larger room. The bed was as hard as a rock. One young lady was polite, but the other was pretty nasty. We don't know how they got any good reviews. I question the thoroughness of Booking.com's ability to visit or rate any properties they may list. We don't think we can use Booking.com again. They should make sure any place they list is as advertised.
We're sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay. We’re looking into the issues you mentioned and reviewing our listing to make sure it accurately reflects the rooms. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve both our rooms and service. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We genuinely value guest feedback as it helps us improve. While we regret that your stay was not enjoyable, we hope you might give us another chance in the future to provide you with the kind of experience we strive to offer every guest.

Verified reviewThe staff were very polite and respectful, attentive when needed. The facilities were all very clean, with a generous assortment of amenities and extra facilities such as a laundry room, vending machines, and a convenience store on the ground floor of the building. It's located in a very nice area, close to the train station, with plenty of stores and restaurants in less than a minute away. Kannai is a good spot for tourists, quiet enough as not to keep you up or making getting around difficult, with enough life and activity outside that gives a comforting lived-in sort of feel. And not too many foreigners also, for anyone wanting to experience living in an area without too much interference from non-japanese influence. Great alternative to staying somewhere nearer to Tokyo where hotel prices practically double, the 40 minute commute everyday is well worth it with the station being very nearby. Overall a cosy and extra-convenient hotel, would stay again.
Thank you very much for using our hotel. We are glad that you were satisfied with your stay. Being a downtown area, there are many facilities nearby, making it a very lively area. We hope that you will choose our hotel when you come to Yokohama again, as it has easy access to Tokyo and convenient transportation. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Verified reviewWe liked this hotel very much. It was a bit bigger than most 3-star hotel rooms in Japan and it was organized in a way that made it comfortable for our 4-night stay. The location is not right next to the most touristy part of Yokohama (the waterfront area) but it was near a rail station and a metro station. The waterfront area is some 20-25 minutes away on foot, so we mostly walked there. In addition, there is a very walkable street with no car traffic that is one block away from the hotel and has a great choice of local restaurants and shops. We had some really great meals there at really good prices.
The breakfast is in a cafe (so not run by the hotel) downstairs. The hotel gives you 1300 yen breakfast vouchers per person, if your reservation includes breakfast. The cafe serves mostly Western style food and we found the selection to be limited for our style of eating (we love healthy foods like vegetables and dark breads). While visiting Japan we prefer to eat Japanese style breakfasts since we can eat Western food at home. Other guests, including Japanese guests, may feel differently about it. If I would go there again, I would not pay for the breakfast at the hotel but go out and find a nice meal of my choice in one of the many restaurants nearby. 1300 yen buys a nice breakfast in this area.
Thank you very much for staying at the Daiwa Roynet Hotel Yokohama Kannai. Thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule to give us your valuable feedback. We are very happy to hear that you were satisfied with your stay. We would like to share your comments with the management and staff of the relevant departments in order to improve our services in the future. As for food and beverage, there are many restaurants nearby in the downtown area. We hope you will be able to choose the one that best suits your needs. We hope that you will consider staying at our hotel again when you come to Yokohama. We look forward to welcoming you again.
