Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The Kiosk to complete the check-in process was buggy and would not respond to taps. It took longer than usual because of this reason.

I didn't meet any of the staff the entire time -- but that might be more of result of Japanese hostel culture compared to what I'm used to.
Exceedingly comfortable hostel, beds were insanely comfortable. Loved the social/coworking space as well, and you get a half-off coupon for the cafe. It's a cool concept, and staying in an old Japanese-style apartment complex that was remodeled into the hostel was pretty sick. Plus, Akita was really cool.

More than one hook per person in the bed area would be useful! Something things (lockers, luggage storage) are only in one room, even though the dorm/capsule bed spaces are split across two rooms. You have access to both, but it’s a little inconvenient.
A fun, cleverly refurbished place, with lots of facilities and very comfy beds. Friendly, helpful staff, access to a shared working space for the duration of your stay, and a nice café on the ground floor.

raw concrete floor. The concrete fell from the ceiling. The entrance door was old and dirty. 1 toilet and 1 shower for 8 units. Very noisy at night. The worst hostel throughout my 4 months travelling in Japan.
The fact that I had clean sheets.

Slightly long walk from the station, which wasn't ideal in the summer heat.
Very friendly & helpful staff, excellent workspace on the top floor with good views and nice people, and the bed was very comfortable - I slept very well every night.

Uncertainty with the online log in was confusing.
Good place and English friendly good people to talk to there a great community and cafe I recommend staying here. Had most of the facilities in your dorm room.

It kind of a hassle to climb up the stairs and into bed after a long day of travelling. It would be nice to have soft slipper against the hard floor. We
It was very clean. The mattress were very comfortable. The lodge upstairs was pretty chill with a nice collection of photography books, some board games, microwave, and seats.

This is merely a suggestion : heavy luggages might be difficult to bring upstairs. How about a way to make it easier ?
A very kind staff and a dormitory with a fridge and washing machines. The working space on the 4th floor is much appreciated and helps with meeting new people. The nearby konbini is also a bonus.

Superb! The parent company is super interesting and they've created a really nice hostel. The rooms are good, the beds are comfy. The staff was super friendly and nice. We had a really nice long chat with two members of the team one of the evenings during dinner. Will definitely come back!

There were so many steps to checking in. You get a binder with all the rules too, just as a reminder. I’ve never stayed in a place so anal about how you use their facilities, the times you use them and just generally what you can and cannot do. The location is not that great either. Very quiet neighborhood about a 15min bus ride from the JR station. Also, you’ve got to walk 20mins to any sort of nightlife.
Faculties were neat, clean, slick, new and hip.

This hostel is just a couple months old so everything looks and feels new, modern and in very good condition. The team around the hostel and café are very nice and the service has been perfect. Besides your bedroom, you will have access to a beautiful coworking space on 4F and the café on 1F.

No storage space for large luggage at your (hostel) beds. Unfortunately the shower and toilet facilities were located in the same room as the hostel beds. So it could be noisy in the night when people used them even when they were trying to be quiet.
Nice staff and a cafe/bar is attached to the location. The facilities were utilitarian and clean with good air conditioning.
