How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe arrived by train and took a taxi to this property. It's very close to tourist sites, but on a surprisingly quiet street. The little garden behind was especially appreciated. When travelling that day, we shared our location with the host on WhatsApp. Our taxi was large and couldn't make it into the little street, but our host was right there to help with our bags (a block from the house). He showed us how everything worked and made sure we were comfortable. He lives next door so was available in case we needed anything (which we really didn't). The grocery store and tea ceremony we did were very close. We cooked here one night and had all we needed. We rented LUUP bikes to get around as well. We both slept on the main floor. The upstairs ceiling is very low and at 5'2" (163cm) I had to watch my head up there.

Verified reviewExcellent location, super clean, host thought of EVERYTHING one would possibly need, even little hotel butter cubes in the fridge! Very friendly, helpful host. So nice to have washer and dryer to use. There was a nice small deck out back in a cute little yard that we enjoyed sipping coffee on in the mornings.
The only thing missing for me was a family sitting area for lounging. There is a kitchen table for four, and a nice meditation room, but mostly to relax we just each went to our own bedrooms because there wasn’t a couch or anything. No big deal, but good to know about.

Verified reviewOur stay in Kyoto was made even more memorable and special as a result of staying at this wonderful accommodation. We felt so at home in the beautifully appointed home with every need anticipated from toiletries, towels, clothes washing and drying facilities through to cooking facilities including a range of condiments. Takuya was wonderful host who communicated with us prior to, during and even after our stay with a follow up thank you email The accommodation was spotlessly clean with 3 air conditioners to ensure comfort in the hot days we were there. The back courtyard is a magical extra to the home. As four adults traveling together we highly recommend this accommodation.

Verified reviewAccommodation was very well equipped and in a great location close to the city buses and within walking distance to the metro station. The host, Takuya, went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, from meeting us when we arrived, to giving us directions to the local supermarket, and booking taxis for our departure.
The second bedroom is up a steep flight of stairs. Good for adults but may not be appropriate for very small children.

Verified reviewSecond time in 2 years staying here. We travel 4 times a year and this is still the best accommodation ever have, especially with this price. The place is spotless and has everything you need. Takuya is super helpful and informative. He provided the pricing for a few nearby parkings and also helped us to find the cheapest one. Location is also supreme. Close to the most traditional part of Kyoto but very quiet. We really enjoyed walking around that area exploring the history of Kyoto.
Nothing at all. Everything is perfect

Verified reviewIt’s a beautiful small house which is very well-equipped. A short walk to bus stop can take me to Gion and Fushimi Inari Taisha conveniently. The most amazing part was it is situated a short walking distance from Kiyomizudera.

Verified reviewThis property was in the perfect location. Easy access to shops, temples, transport - everything to make your everyday easy. The host had also taken the time to label everything in English even a little seasoning drawer in the kitchen - this made it so easy. And there were so many extras like Advil, razors, soap powder, toothbrushes, toothpaste. It is a great start up for when you first arrive.
Nothing to fault at all
Thanks for your nice review. I really enjoyed hosting your family. I am enjoying the champagne you gave me!

Verified reviewModern Equipment, enough space for everything. Two separate toilets and a separate shower.
The ceiling on the floor upstairs is kinda low and you have to be careful here.

Verified reviewWonderful apartment in a quiet residential neighbourhood close to a bus stop so easy to get around. Our host was so helpful with everything. He made suggestions for anything we asked about. He arranged taxis and even placed an Amazon order for us. The apartment was spotless and very comfortable. It was well furnished and equipped with everything you would need and more. So many little extras were provided in case you forgot anything. Our host anticipated our every need. We would stay here again in a minute. This is the best apartment rental we have ever stayed in.
