Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesElectricity went out overnight, entire hotel got very cold. This was apparently due to a small boot warmer used. Wel, it was blamed on a guest rather than on old infrastructure. Further, no contingency plan for outage? Nobody working at the hotel over night. So if there really is an emergency this property is well underprepared Further, with the amount of money we paid to have a private bathroom, the bathroom was quite cold through the entire stay, not just during the power outage. There’s a heater in the bathroom but it is not ample. The tile floor gets too cold to even walk on. The onsen was OK but twice we found and we were told it needed to refill and would be multiple hours.
Breakfast was good but would be nice to have a little variety. Same exact plate of food each day, got a bit old. This is vacation. Shuttle service was amazing. They do pickup/dropoff on your arrival and departure day from the bus terminal, and they have shuttles to happo one and

AustraliaOur room could have been a little cleaner. Rather dusty under the bed. The Onsen wasn’t always clean and often was cold.
Shuttles from hotel were amazing. Also close proximity to other free shuttles. Great bar staff.

AustraliaThere’s been a few changes which were a bit disappointing. The restaurant menu has been changed and was a huge highlight during my stay last year. Not being able to privately book the onsen was another let down unfortunately. And the futon bedding was incredibly uncomfortable. When paying as much as we did to stay, the 3rd person in the room having to use the hard futon was really disappointing. Staff were great to try and help though.
Great location, really cosy.

AustraliaHaving breakfast included in my stay was really convenient however, the quality of the food was less than I had hoped and the portion sizes varied considerably.
Mostly, I liked the wonderful staff and how engaging, genuine and helpful they were while on my stay. It made me feel like I was in a home away from home. The proximity of the accommodation to the town and ski areas was great and gave me flexibility to walk wherever I wanted if I chose. The size of the rooms was generous with a beautiful outlook from my window.

CanadaDon't expect to see out the window, they region gets so much snow that most ground floor windows get buried in falling snow from the roofs.
Great location with spacious zen-like rooms with breakfast included..The restaurant was ideal for the days we were too tired to go back out in the evening. The staff were friendly and solution orientated:; for example, our sdult son found the sofa bed uncomfortable so they provided a mattress to put on top. The main bed was extra large and very comfy. Transport to the ski hills and bus station were free. The staff spoke multiple languages. The hotel's onsen was tattoo friendly. We will recommend to friends.

Australiaowner did not seem all that interested to welcome us or say hello or give that extra bit of hospitality i would have thought would have been standard in a small lodge
it was nice, plenty of food in the morning, although we did not know after the first morning there was hot breakfast as part of the booking until the next morning when staff asked me if i wanted hot breakfast

Australia- The free shuttle buses the hotel offers to the mountains only fits 6 people so often they’d have to come back to get more people, meaning delays to getting on the mountain in the morning. - The private transfer the hotel offers was quite expensive at 2000 yen minimum per trip, regardless where you went. Though it was great they had this offered as it’s very needed for getting around. - Rooms don’t have standard basics like a mini fridge or kettle. - Food at the restaurant was very average and unfortunately every meal we had was overcooked or undercooked. - Rooms aren’t cleaned for you, you need to request fresh towels if you want them. Staff did empty our bins daily which was good. We stayed for 5 nights and never had our sheets changed either. - No private onsen as advertised on their website.
- Koko at reception was super helpful and also very welcoming when we arrived! Thanks for all your help Koko! - We found our room to be very comfortable and a decent size for our small family. - Free laundry. Great to be able to use the washing machine and dryer at our leisure with ease!

United StatesLack of Japanese hospitality. I went with the expectation of getting Japanese hospitality, but it was fully run by what seemed like students or young adults, which wasn't bad, just wasn't what I was expecting. Additionally, the scheduling for the baths felt inconvenient, although no one seemed to use it whatsoever.
Overall, everything was quite good. Service was nice, breakfast was nice, and location was quite convenient. Even in the cold, it's easy to walk to wherever you need, and the convenient shuttle makes things better for sure.

New ZealandOur welcome was rather frosty. Arrived by bus and had to walk all around the station to find the lodge shuttle van as driver didn't make themselves known. Finally found shuttle parked in between other vans so couldn't see the name of lodge on it. Driver didn't bother to get out and help with bags. Then we were told it wasn't his job to drive the vans. No tea or coffee facilities in room so if you're after a hot cuppa after travelling you can forget it. The shuttle service very confusing if you choose to dine out - Restaurant is very expensive. Room was very dusty. Don't look under bed or in the corners.
For the most part it was pretty good. Nice quiet location. Breakfast was nice each morning. Did like that you could book private onsen. Drying room was great. The majority of staff were lovely, just issues with our initial welcome.

AustraliaThe location is very picturesque, and is within walking distance of some of Hakuba, but I feel the hotel doesn't fully reveal that car transport is needed virtually every time you leave the hotel. For example, we needed the put our name down for hotel transfers to ski fields in the morning, or the bus stop for then a bus transfer to a ski field, or for dinner (and not guaranteed a return trip would be possible, although often was). The breakfast was also pretty boring - identical offerings every morning for 8 days - wouldn't be too difficult to offer something else. Also, no gluten and or dairy free options were available - at least placed out on the 'buffet'.
The hotel accommodated 4 rooms close together for the friends we were travelling with. It was warm, the staff, particularly the assistant manager Verie, was wonderfully friendly, helpful and genuine.

JapanThe bathroom and the shower are as cold as the temperature outside. I probably wouldn't have the courage to take a shower without a bottle of vodka. The entire hotel is very dirty, the room has no heating at night, and there is only one machine that makes noise like a plane taking off to give the room a bit of warmth. We didn't sleep all night. We left early the next morning. We paid for three nights' rent, which is ¥227,000.
This is the worst experience you can get. We paid ¥220k for 3 nights: but I left immediately the next morning.

AustraliaThe service was really disappointing. The staff clearly weren’t interested in guest satisfaction and didn’t make us feel welcomed at all. Our bathroom wasn’t cleaned when checking in, as there was the previous persons underwear in the bin along with their rubbish.
The room was a good size and had a decent bathroom and amenities. The hotel offered complimentary pickup and drop off which was really helpful as transportation is limited in hakuba.

AustraliaThe F&B staff & management were a disgrace - closing early, rude/mean. Worst food too - it was like being in a dorm…terrible food, service and general customer service. Cleaning was terrible too - had to beg to have bathroom cleaned after 3 days.
The drivers were amazing! So friendly & helpful! Especially Ring - can translate too. So grateful!
