Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalI wish the Ryokan could have a breakfast option, and that the architecture could be slightly more traditional... But it's only my opinion, since I also liked my room a lot 🙏
I really loved Jacob's personality, kindness and also his wonderful voluntary guides and "off the beaten path" suggestions... But all the other receptionists are also so welcoming and wonderful people as well. 🫂😊

United StatesAs was made clear in advance, the place is not soundproof. Everyone was very considerate of this, but it was a little stressful worrying about my own noise. The bedding was a single standard thin-style futon. I'm used to places doubling these on harder floors, but it was still okay on the synthetic tatami. There were a couple mosquitoes in the room, but this wasn't really an issue with the accommodations - mosquitoes were very active throughout the city during our stay, so it was probably not something that could really be helped.
It was conveniently close to Kyoto Station. Friendly staff. They kindly disposed of my soleless shoes for me after I bought new ones from the nearby mall. It was possible to borrow umbrellas to go out when it was raining. Laundry was available, though the dryer wasn't great, but there's a laundromat very nearby where you can dry clothes after on-site laundry hours are over so this was also very convenient.

AustraliaAs this was towards the end of our journey I found the traditional bedding uncomfortable. The room was nice, water steaming hot, fridge cold, very quiet location, staff friendly and spoke English. As we spent most of all our time away from the hotel it was fine. I would stay again, just first up not when I was exhausted and needing a good rest.
If you want an experience of Japan, this is for you. Location is great very close to Kyoto station, easy to roll suitcases to the hotel. A large department store and grocery store is close by. A laundry mat is close also. 12 min cab ride to Markets.

United StatesI would caution the bathroom size. You will smack someone with the door if you’re not careful.
Overall we were a bit apprehensive going into this stay based on the other review but it was so good. The weather was perfect to keep the window open at night, and the bedding was so good at keeping us warm. It was also so cozy which was even better.

TurkeyThe room was generally clean, but the bed sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases were damp. We felt cold while sleeping, or maybe it just felt that way because it was very cold.

AustraliaRooms and building are a little dated... But this was a minor thing.
Jacob was the best!!! Have such great personalised recommendations based on our interests and was super friendly and accommodating. The location is great to access from the train station. The rooms are small but it's the city (there all small) - much better than western style accommodations which are common. Price was very fair and reasonable. The shower was quality and clean.

AustraliaIt’s in a quiet suburb with limited food options. nearest convenient stores are ~5min walk away.
Our room was surprisingly spacious (for Japan standards) for 2 adults and 2 children, with space for luggage and lounging. Tatami was comfortable. Within short walking distance from Kyoto station. Our staff was friendly and spoke fluent english.

SpainThough you can see the efforts to keep it clean and tidy, it kinda looked like it needed a thorough cleaning. The walls were super thin and we could hear anything, even the steps from the people upstairs. The washing machine was fine but the dryer didn’t dry at all. We used it for 2 hours but the clothes remained a bit wet. Also, people didn’t read the instructions and used both machines until midnight and we were right next to them. I had to tell two guests to stop using them because it was late and we were trying to sleep.
It was super close to the Kyoto station and looked very traditional. The staff was super friendly and even gave us great advice on where to go and what to do. We loved it!

AustraliaUnable to do laundry except during day time. The size of the room is adequate for two people, but a bit of a squeeze with two large suitcases. Felt unwell drinking the tap water, but travelling partner was fine.
Its a great location for the price. Get to be close to Kyoto station without paying for any frills. Size of the room is adequate for two people. Plenty of eateries close by. Towels changed and bins emptied daily.
