It was lovely to stay short term, but for a western family it may be uncomfortable after a few days.

Lovely traditional Ryokan, with very helpful and welcoming staff.

    Nothing

Very traditional Japanese ryokan experience in Tokyo, and the neighborhood is also so beautiful and very local compared to other places like shibuya. I would recommend to anyone coming to Tokyo !

I didn't like that we couldn't stay longer! It is a little far from things but there is a lot to do around the Ryokan if you look. The National museum is spectacular and well worth a visit!

Lovely little Ryokan in a quiet part of town. They had some incense burning that smelled so good! I loved the ice cold tea when we arrived. We left an item behind (a stuffed animal that my son has had for about 15 years) and they contacted us and arranged for it to be returned. I so appreciate that! Very kind people. Our room was tiny but felt like an authentic experience and was great

Honestly, nothing to point out as I did not like it. Even though they close the main door at 11:00 PM, they give you access through the back door whenever you come back. Maybe add more varieties in the vending machine.

Everything about this place feels intentional—from the quiet comfort of the tatami rooms to the peaceful shared spaces. The team clearly puts in noticeable effort to make every guest feel at ease, appreciated, and at home.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were happy to speak English, which made things easy for us. They wanted us to have a genuine Japanese experience without the stress of a communication barrier. The set breakfasts were amazing!

The Japanese style room took some getting used to, but ultimately provided pleasant rest.

Edo Sakura is a tranquil oasis in a busy city. Hospitality was great. Shower was powerful. Location is close enough to subway to access the sights of Tokyo.

The closest train station Iriya Station is not on a main line and may take longer to travel from this station.

The Edo Sakura is a Ryokan Hotel situated in a quiet residential area of Ueno. The hotel itself is has a very traditional Japanese setting and the Staff were extremely nice and welcoming. The room has traditional tatami mattress/bed which may need to get use to. As the location is not in a tourist/busy area, there are not many shops/restaurants around. However, it is a walkable distance to Ueno or a short train ride where the station is quite close. It is an area where one can experience the local vibe of residential Tokyo.

Sad that the tea ceremony wasn't available and the room was a little cramped with three people.

We enjoyed the traditional feel of the place. The neighbourhood is very quiet, but convenient to travel from. The private bath was also wonderful.

The Onzen picture shown at the reception is not what it really looks like. The onzen was the only bad experience we had at the hotel. Totally not with it.

    Anything

From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the refined Japanese style that brings a sense of calm and beauty to every corner of the property. Everything was spotlessly clean, reflecting a true attention to detail. The staff made the experience truly exceptional — incredibly welcoming, helpful, attentive, and always with a genuine smile. Their kindness made me feel right at home. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring restful nights. The location is perfect — peaceful yet conveniently situated. And the breakfast? Absolutely delicious! A healthy variety of fresh options that left me energized and satisfied each morning. I can’t recommend this place enough. A truly memorable stay! Thank you to all the staff

I was expecting the "onsen" to be a hot spring but it was just regular hot water. Maybe I missed it in the reviews or property description.

The staff were all very accommodating and helpful. The place is as advertised and we slept on tatami mats which were not bad. The duvets were VERY soft and comfortable, pillows were flat but expected. The family room was literally just the room and we had to do a lot of moving things around to get stuff done. Very clean space. The location was a bit far for where we wanted to explore but the location was close enough to a train station and some food places, very peaceful neighborhood.
