Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaWell it's more of a preference but maybe if we would have thicker bedding that would have helped and also the vending machines inside the premise had run out of drinking water (maybe if it can be stocked with more water)
Loved the location as it was close to the bus stop and also a lot of restaurants around. The property had a few private onsens which was great and the overall property was neat and clean.

IsraelA little expansive.
We enjoyed the private onsen and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the bus station that took us to the park. It also has a large parking lot with convenient access. Overall, an excellent hotel with both comfort and convenience.

GermanyI looked for the following criteria when booking this accommodation: 1) Shortest walking distance for public transport 2) Our own private room with bathroom and toilet 3) Low cost compared to others All were fulfilled. It is 2 min walking from Hirayu Onsen main bus terminal. Perfect if you want to go to Kamikochi or Shinhotaka Ropeway. Very friendly staff, giant Japanese style room and a private Onsen free to use!

NetherlandsThey could give more towels, especially since we used them both for showing and the onsen, and having a bit thicker futons.

Hong KongThe onsen is just fair, and deserve a little upgrade of the facilities. Other than that, it's a lovely stay.
Excellent location. Just 5 mins walk to bus terminal that go straight to 上高地 and a nearby convenience store. Laundry service is wonderful and the staff is really helpful. We had a lovely 2-night stay.

AustraliaRoom was very small for 4 ppx, and having a dining table in the middle of it took up needless amounts of space.
The private onsen was a unique experience and meant we could enjoy as a couple, a group of friends

New ZealandEverything was great.
Big spacious room with bathtub. Great mountain views. Very clean room and facilities. The private hot pools were the best! 3 different pools to choose and enjoy by yourself. They also have some bikes to go around the village. Great location, just a few minutes walking distance from the bus station. Very accommodating staff. They kept my backpack until check-in time. There's no restaurant in the hotel, but quite a few nearby.

ThailandWould be great if front desk is 24 hours, have a restaurant or having plenty of dinner option inside the place as the town itself is very quiet. 8 pm and most of the restaurants & shops are closed.
- Very convenient. 5 mins walk from bus stop, 30 mins to Kamikochi & 1 hour to Takayama by bus. - Staff is very nice. - Room is clean, love the tea. (I book with private bathroom) - Good view - Highlight is the onsen; they have 2 indoors and 1 outdoors. All private. You only have to flip the sign when going to use and others will know.

FranceThe futons were very traditional, i.e., there were no extra padding to make them softer so the beds were a little hard.
Nice big rooms and close to all the hot springs (and it's own indoor baths as well). Traditional-style with tatami mats and futons. Very quiet.

I enjoyed the Tabist Kazeyuki very much! I stayed there for 2 nights in May. The private outdoor onsen was great and we didn't need to wait for it at all since there was not much people in hotel. The room was spacy, traditional-style with tatami and futons. It was a good base to make a one-day trip to Kamikochi by public bus.

United KingdomShared bathrooms are never as nice as private bathrooms although they kept them spotless and it almost felt like no one else was using the shared bathroom except me. I also find it hard to sleep on Futon’s but that might be my issue.
Everything was clean and spotless, rooms are spacious and the onsens are lovely and amazing. The value is also really good and worth staying here. Really nice and clean Yukatas to wear are also great.

United KingdomWe stayed in two different rooms as not available for three night in same room (our fault as we changed our mind about how many nights to stay) The first night we stayed in a room with a shared bathroom. The toilet was down the corridor but if you wanted a shower you had to go down to the next floor which was not great. The room was big but had large what looked like water stains on the cupboards. There was no curtains or blinds so woken by the light very early. The next two nights we stayed in a room with en suite bathroom which was much better. This room had blackout curtains so an improvement. In the first room we had a double futon which was comfortable but in the second room we had only one very thin futon and it was very uncomfortable to sleep on. This room also had big stains on the cupboards and one of the chairs had patches stuck to it. The WiFi kept stopping although the receptionist did all she could to restart it. The onsens had broken down for one of the days but again the staff were very apologetic and lovely.
The staff were lovely. The ambience was relaxing. The private onsen were great when they were working. The view from the window was stunning. Very near the bus station. Hirayu is a beautiful village.

ThailandThe onsens were on a first come, first serve basis, but we think it'd be better if guests can book them after checking in.
The room is definitely larger than the 19sqm stated here in Booking. Lovely private onsen, and the beds were comfy!
