Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

It was an old Japanese house it was really good to experience. The owner is also very accommodating and helpful. She let us check in early and you can also leave the luggage with her for free for a couple of days.

JapanThe bath is small but it is not an issue. Most groups will not have qualms about this.
The owner went out of her way to accommodate us and make us feel at home, even amidst traveling with a larger group size. She is very kind and makes me feel as though I would like to stay again. The guesthouse is in the style of a traditional Japanese home - it feels very comfortable and authentic even though it is small.

Loved the HUGE Japanese style room I had all to myself. Free tea and coffee provided. Nice kitchen, shower, and toilets. Friendly guests with whom to socialize. Easy access to the bus, train, and beach.

ItalyEverything was perfect, I guess the toilet flushing/sewage system was a bit old so it had a slight smell but it was clear it was just the sewage, the toilet was actually very clean.
Honestly this place was just lovely!! Perfect location (less than 10 mins from Kii-Tanabe station), traditional Japanese house, large and comfortable room (the bed was SUPER comfortable, I didn't want to get up!!) the owner didn't speak English but was supee friendly and welcoming, 100% I would come back!!!

United KingdomBath/shower facilities were good, but it would be helpful if more soap could be included where the toilet facilities are.
My first time in a Ryokan guesthouse, which is in a good location, not far from the train station in Tanabe. The host is very friendly and accommodating and the room was very comfortable.

AustraliaNothing really we dislike
Super convenient area, 5-10 minutes walk from the station. Also close to the commercial street is easy to access dinner. Older and classic Japanese house with 4 rooms only. We have the 2 rooms on second floors with lot of privacy.

GermanyUnfortunately you will always have to go out into the cold for the toilet, and there are steep stairs to the second floor. This is due to the house being very old and traditional. - Just so you know, it was still very nice.
Very close to train station, and very friendly host. The room was spacious and we were glad about the heater as it gets pretty cold at night. The kitchen seemed well stocked.

United StatesHowever, the sound insulation effect of the house is not very good. If you are used to chatting freely and heartily or have a relatively late bedtime routine, this place might not be a good fit for you. But if you, like me, prefer a quiet environment in your daily life, living here would be perfect.
This homestay is a traditional Japanese house with unique characteristics. The rooms in the homestay are clean and tidy, and the location is very convenient, making it easy to find. The host is especially warm and friendly, and even helped me with the luggage transfer service attentively, making my journey much easier.

MalaysiaThere was one other person staying in the guesthouse with me and he watched videos until 11pm-12am. Because of the traditional doors (very thin), I could hear every word and sound from his videos. I guess this is less to do with the property, and more to do with the inconsiderate behaviour of other guests. Oh, I couldn’t figure out how to adjust the pressure of the water gun! Haha
I love the layout and setup of this guesthouse which feels really traditional - there is a courtyard, it leads to the lavatory, etc. Complimenting this homey atmosphere was the owner who is such a warm, welcoming lady. The floors are heated! The rooms, which are very spacious, are heated. I loved that my room had a light that could be turned on and off with a remote control haha Water from the kitchen tap is drinkable. Super central location - it’s a 5-7min walk from Kii-Tanabe train station, the 7-11, the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre and the bus stop to the start of the Kumano Kodo Trail.
