Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Canada- exceptional food experience: we were seven a multi course Japanese meal that was excellently prepared, better than most restaurants we have visited in Japan - comfortable sleeping and bathing facilities: although it was exceptionally hot during our visit, and their is no central air, the fans and windows ensure that the mountain air cools down the rooms as the evening progresses - caring and thoughtful service: the owners picked us up in Koyasan because we visited the temple town first - which is quite a drive for them- and then dropped us off at the train station after checkout and even made sure we had our tickets and o ward travel itinerary organized! They adjusted meal times to our schedule. Exceptional and personalized service every step of the way.

United StatesI've never done a homestay before. This was a fantastic introduction. The owners, Akemi and Tomo, are a tremendous couple who make you feel welcomed the moment you get off the train. They shuttle you to and from the station, which is extremely convenient for those not renting a car. The actual village of Fuki is a small, quiet mountain town (~3000ft above sea level) with nature all around. The guesthouse is very well furnished and was recently renovated and very up-to-date (new toilet, bathroom, etc.), while the owners live in another property just up the street. They are wonderful people and full of kindness and generosity. They enjoy explaining their town and culture to foreingers and really make you feel welcome. They cook dinner and breakfast for you too! After dinner, we all drank shochu and sake and enjoyed the night with broken Japanense/English with help from Google Translate haha. I cannot recommend this enough to travelers wanting an authentic Japanese experience away from the big cities. Thank you, Akemi-san and Tomo-san

We loved everything about our stay at Fuki Juku. The place is authentic, beds are comfortable, common areas are inviting. The owners of the place are enthusiastic, great story tellers, happy to provide detailed information about Koyasan, which is a 45 min drive away. The food they prepare is delicious and clearly made with much love and care. Its presentation is beautiful and the atmosphere during dinner is full of joy! My daughter, my husband and I spent 2 nights and felt very much at home! We would absolutely go back! Can only recommend it!!!

The hosts were warm and welcoming, even stoping off at a cherry blossom grove on our way to the train station. Food excellent.

United StatesThere was truly nothing to dislike. Everything exceeded my expectations.
The stay was simply amazing. The warmth and kindness of the hosts made me feel so welcome — their beautiful smiles and the genuine care they showed made every moment special. We shared good laughs and wonderful conversations that made me feel like part of the family. The food that Akemi-san prepared was absolutely delicious and crafted with love — every meal was a delight. Thanks to them, I felt at home even though I was far away from home.

SwedenOur only regret is that we didn’t stay longer! The road leading to the guesthouse is a bit narrow, but it wasn’t really a problem — even as non-expert drivers, we managed just fine. The hosts even helped guide us out by driving ahead to make sure we were safe.
This was truly an exceptional and authentic experience. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, warm, and talkative, making us feel right at home. They went the extra mile to ensure everything went smoothly during our stay — all without ever making us feel pressured. It was a one-of-a-kind experience and absolutely one of the highlights of our trip to Japan!

RomaniaA sacred stay I’ll never forget Staying at this guesthouse in Fuki was an absolute blessing. Akemi and Tomo are truly special people—so kind, thoughtful, and welcoming. I felt safe, cared for, and deeply supported throughout my stay. Their warmth and presence made all the difference, especially as I was traveling solo. The guesthouse itself is a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese home, full of charm and quiet energy. The village, with only around 200 people, offers an authentic glimpse into life near Kōyasan—deeply connected to nature, community, and spirituality. I was incredibly lucky to have the entire house to myself, and even more so to receive a private tour of Kōyasan from the hosts, which was personal and full of insight. Although the weather was unexpectedly cold for this time of year, the hosts did their best to keep the space warm, offering extra blankets and heaters. Just be aware that heaters typically can’t be left on overnight, so it can get chilly. Even with that, I would absolutely rate the stay as exceptional. The home-cooked breakfasts and dinners were a highlight—delicious, nourishing, and made with so much care. I also spent a peaceful day resting, reading, writing, and enjoying the slow rhythm of the village. It was a deeply grounding and meaningful experience. If you’re looking for something quiet, real, and full of heart, this is the place. I left feeling incredibly grateful.

Amazing guesthouse! Very Japanese style countryside guesthouse. Very delicious traditional Japanese home-style dinner and breakfast. If you wanna visit Koyasan but do not want to live in the temple, definitely a perfect choice! The host is very kind and offer free pick-up service from hashimoto station and drop-off service in the morning at Koyasan. He knows very well about the history and the tour guide of Koyasan. He gives me a very detailed introduction to Koyasan and helps me to drop off luggage in the station as well.

We loved our stay with the exceptionally kind and helpful couple. It’s a remote village up a steep mountain road, with a great bar next door! The food was delicious. We enjoyed chatting to the hosts. We had a trip to Mt Koyasan and got drenched in a rain storm. The kind hosts dried our shoes in a special Japanese machine!

CanadaOur stay at Fuki Juku was undeniably a highlight of our trip to Japan! The charming hosts picked us up at the Hashimoto Train Station and drove the 30 minutes to their guesthouse, with a stop at a beautiful view for pictures. The pick up and drop off is included in their rate. We were fortunate in that our family of four were the only guests that night and we had the whole floor to ourselves. At 6:30pm the most amazing dinner was ready and presented artistically with a touch of folk art and nostalgia to create a memorable atmosphere. After dinner we had fireworks (sparklers) and then walked through the peaceful village. Breakfast was equally delightful and then they brought us to Koya for photos and dropped us off at the information centre in Koyasan. The service and hospitality was above and beyond and was a wonderful way to get started on our Kohechi Trail in Kumano Kodo!! This was a truly unique Japanese experience away from the tourist areas. We highly recommend it!

GermanyWe wanted to get away from the noise of the big city for a few days. We found the peace and quiet we were looking for at Akemi and her husband's beautiful guesthouse. They were very welcoming and attentive. We always looked forward to having breakfast and dinner together. The exchange with the other guests was always very interesting and Akemi is a great cook. It was always delicious. Food preferences or other diets were always taken into consideration. We were given a short guided tour to various shrines near Hashimoto. This was very nice and we were happy not to be surrounded by other tourists for once. We had three great days at the inn. We would visit again any time!
