How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewThe house is so beautiful and the lady is so nice! It's a whole little house on a calm street. The interior and exterior are very authentic Japanese style but it has all the modern comfort that's needed. It is not far away from the ferry port. The beds were really comfortable. The welcoming was also such a great experience. The host is kind and thoughtful!
The internet was not strong but we appreciated the relaxing calmness.

Verified reviewI loved everything about my stay! The host is one of the friendliest, kindest people you’ll meet, the bath is lovely, the futon is incredibly comfortable, and the location is excellent. I don’t think there was anything that I had any troubles with, and I already want to go back!

Verified reviewWe stayed at Shintatsuan for 2 nights in Miyajima, and it was the nicest accommodation we stayed at during our entire trip! Our host welcomed us with a lovely warm welcome! The accommodation is a beautiful traditional Japanese home with lovely artwork, furniture, and a comfortable atmosphere! The bed was extremely comfortable, facilities are great and it's located very close to the main attractions on the island. Amazing experience, would give more than 5 stars if possible!

Verified reviewOne of the absolute highlights of our time in Japan. The house is a beautifully restored ryokan with excellent modern facilities, on a quiet street just a 5 minute walk from central Miyajimacho. Our host was incredibly generous and accommodating, greeting us with tea and treats and recommendations. She made us feel very welcome. As a base for our hike of Mt Misen, it was perfect. Miyajima is a busy place for daytrippers from Hiroshima, so staying overnight gave us the chance to see the island practically deserted in the morning and evening hours: a perfect way to see Itsukushima Shrine and Daisho-in Temple earlier in the day, before the crowds arrive, and even to wander out at low tide after dark to touch the base of the great, "floating" torii gate. Highly, highly recommend Shintatsuan as a place to stay!
Finding it was a little difficult! We had to consult a very friendly rickshaw driver who was helpful.

Not a feedback just an advice. If you come in cold season don‘t forget your woolen socks! The heaters work very well but you can‘t wear slippers in the living room so feet would still get cold if you are not used to it :)

If the flooring was wooden or carpeted, we would provide slippers, but since this is a Japanese-style house with tatami mats, we do not provide slippers. Verified reviewFrom the moment we arrived, our host welcomed us with so much love and even surprised us with handmade honeymoon gifts – such a touching gesture! There was also a heartfelt note that truly moved us. The place itself is beautiful, well-equipped, and incredibly clean. The bathtub was excellent, and the beds were very comfortable. We also appreciated the thoughtful snacks, coffee, and water. We wish we could have stayed longer – it was such a lovely experience. Highly, highly recommended!
The stairs to the upper floor were a bit tricky to climb, but aside from that, the place is even more stunning and authentic than in the pictures!
