Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaPool was closed and it was 32*C.
Traditional futon on the floor was really comfortable. Great view over the lake and castle. Volleyball tournament at the adjacent park so there was heaps of youngstets around which was excellent. Close to the train station.

AustraliaThe hotel rooms were dated . Our room had 3 beds in it which we didn't need. The decor was old and tired. The hotel was very busy , full of families with young age children. This made the restaurant very busy, chaotic and noisy . However what was worse was the pool area which was ridiculously busy! It was just not a nice place to be .There was nowhere to sit and what made it worse was that there was extremely loud music playing on the side of the pool.
The hotel was in a good position , great views of the lake. 3pm to 6pm was free snacks and drinks in the lounge

SingaporeLike: very vintage feel to it, feels like a hotel for locals, which fits my appetite, you get to see what’s in the pack. They try to speak alittle English which I appreciate as compared to other areas. Got to see the lake even tho it was raining the entire day. Met some cool young kids on the way to the hotel too. The whole atmosphere were pleasant , the locals are relax too. Compared to huge cities. Dislike: the day I booked I presume they had some festival or event going on, a lot of locals going to the onsen! As usual there’s bound to be Japanese staffs that are hostile towards gaijin and doesn’t want to serve you or acknowledge. Which is fine. I’m paying and they can’t do anything. The rooms seem to be abit old and musky but I’m staying for a day so we can make do with it.

New ZealandLocation, location, location is faraway from most Biwa Lake attractions. It is remote especially if not driving a car. Lack of living facilities around the hotel, such as shops, supermarket, convenience stores. Staff's english levels can be better, e.g. they can't even explain how to access/leave the parking and pay for the fee. Bed, chair, bath, everything were very short and inconvenient for taller people, which appears to be designed for Japanese use only.
room size. Lake view and water front. Free drinks at lounge. Nice park nearby. Many Japanese families stay at the lounge at night, eat, drink and talk, which is a opportunity for tourists to experience the local culture. Spa service is good, but not sure if it is open to non-japanese looking foreigners.

SingaporeIn general, the front desk ladies were helpful. The men on the other hand, with the exception of the general manager, were rather stiff, and seemed not very willing to help us resolve the matter of a faulty toilet in the room to which we were first assigned. Nor were they sympathetic at first or very willing to compensate us for the terrible ordeal and inconvenience of having to move rooms right after we had just begun to unpack our bags after a long trip from Kyoto.
The room size, location and some facilities and services were very good. Our room had a beautiful view and it was bright and spacious. My friends also enjoyed the onsen and happy hours and the free bicycle rental. We also appreciated the service provided by the ladies at the front desk. One of them was able to converse very well in English and while the other women were a little less fluent in the language, they nevertheless did try their best to communicate with us.

SingaporeWhile the dining spread was good, the quality was badly-managed. Staff would take backup dishes that were cling-wrapped in a presentable tray, and scrape portions from them onto the existing trays, like filling up a feeding trough. The dishes generally taste okay but you can tell they came from a mass-catering process. Some dishes like pasta or risotto were baked into mush, while fish were totally dried out (fried tuna nuggets were the best as they retained their moisture.) The dessert station was a long, long area but more for show than for anything else. I tried the donuts and the strawberry mont blanc but they were far, far from any proud dessert hotel standard. Took a bite each. Of course the alcohol counter would be a highlight so I had a couple of beers and lemon sours. Breakfast was decent, but did not have the cereal counter that I was hankering for. My single room was terrible, as was the walkway leading to it from the escalator. The carpeting's heyday was clearly over as the stains of the battlefield were on every foot of it. My room's carpet had cigarette burns in corners. The room was old and small, and only slightly better than the Azu Gardens in Osaka. Was that why there was an inner lounge downstairs? All these were in sharp contrast to the public areas downstairs which looked dated but at least grand to a degree. Late checkout is payable (Y3,600 per hour) definitely not worth it.
The location is pretty good, lake facing, and right down from the Nagahama castle park, and relatively near the station (can walk over if needed). The dinner and breakfast have a decent spread, and there is an alcohol station at night. There's also an inner lounge near the onsen, which serves drinks as well.

SingaporeThe staff at reception tried to pull a fast one on me. I had booked five rooms for 10 people, but noticed that two rooms were designated for only one occupant each. Wrote to Booking.com in Feb, 2024 to ask them to rectify, but did not receive any reply. Meanwhile, I had paid the same price for all 10 rooms. Reception staff initially insisted that I had to pay extra for the two rooms in order to have double occupancy. He rejected the note that I had written to Booking.com, saying that that wasn't the hotel's problem. Suddenly, his colleague whispered something to him, and he then immediately said "only for this time, they would accept the two rooms for double occupancy without imposing additional charges"! I had paid for all 10 rooms at the same price, and I find it unacceptable for the reception staff to try to pull a fast one, even though they did finally decide not to impose extra charges.
Big onsen on site. Free drinks and snacks at lounge area at night.

United StatesExpensive. Unsecured wi-fi. You can clearly hear footsteps from the room above. A bit worn. Rather crowded in the dining area.
Great location overlooking Lake Biwa, and about a ten minute walk from the train station. From my room, I had a view of Nagahama Castle and the park as well as Lake Biwa. Very spacious room, with a sitting area right by the window. Excellent buffet breakfast and especially dinner. Nice big rocky rotemburo.

United KingdomOur non-smoking room had a distinct smell of cigarette, and its decor was looking a little worn.
Clean, comfortable and very spacious. Most of the rooms have fabulous views of beautiful lake Biwa (the others look towards the town and the mountains beyond). All inclusive buffet dinner and breakfast, with a huge choice of delicious dishes including Japanese, European and Asian cuisines. I also enjoyed the big indoor and outdoor onsen baths.
