Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SingaporeAbsolutely loved our stay at Skala! This family-run inn is managed by a wonderful couple, Osamu and Asako. The rooms are clean and good sized, and the location is great — a 10-min walk to the main street of Echoland, with a shuttle bus stop conveniently right outside. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast spread every morning. We visited Hakuba for a few days of snowboarding and were fortunate to arrive at a time when pick-up could be arranged. Since we hadn’t rented our gear yet, Osamu kindly drove us to the rental shop on the way to the inn. They even handled the gear returns for us, which was a huge convenience—no need to lug our equipment around or walk long distances in heavy boots. There's also a basement storage area to dry gear after a day on the slopes. After a day of snowboarding, it was nice to unwind in the cozy lounge with a beer by the fireplace or relaxing in the massage chair. Osamu and Asako went above and beyond to assist us multiple times during our stay, including arranging a ride to the bus station when we couldn’t get an Uber and helping me get my phone back after I left it on the shuttle bus. They put their hearts into running this place, and it shows in their warmth and hospitality. Thank you Osamu and Asako! Highly recommend Skala, and we would definitely stay here again!

AustraliaThe beds are hard, but that seems to be common in Japan. I was 20 weeks pregnant during our stay, so the hard beds were getting to me
The staff were so attentive, water pressure was great, shuttle stopped right near the hotel, the home made breakfast was delicious, and the lounge was relaxed and comfortable.

SingaporeMinor inconvenience: Hot water pressure is inconsistent except in the basement (where the shared bath is).
The staff are very helpful and their service exceeded expectations! Breakfast had a good variety and a different daily hot dish. Plus, hotel is located walking distance from the food street in Echoland and very near the shuttle bus stop.

AustraliaA beautiful, traditional family run inn. Thank you to our hosts who were incredibly helpful and have made this an amazing place to stay. Delicious homemade breakfasts every day. In a quiet part of town but with a bus stop just next door. Bedrooms were cosy and comfortable. The onsen was great after a long day skiing, and it was so nice to have the lounge area to relax in during the evening.

AustraliaIf I could give Skala Inn 100 stars, I absolutely would! This is, without a doubt, the most incredible place I have ever stayed. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and kindness by the staff, instantly making us feel at home. Our room was spotless, incredibly comfortable, and the bed was wonderfully spacious—perfect for a restful night after a day of adventure. The bar and lounge area was a dream, with cozy couches and a heavenly massage chair that we appreciated so much after a long day. Enjoying a beer or a glass of their homemade plum wine after unwinding in the onsen after a big day at the snow was pure bliss. Breakfast was an absolute delight, with a delicious variety that changed daily. The freshly baked in-house pastries were the perfect finishing touch—such a treat! The location couldn't be better, right by the free shuttle to the resorts and within walking distance of fantastic restaurants. But what truly sets Skala Inn apart is the incredible hospitality of the family who runs it. Their warmth, generosity, and genuine care for their guests make this place so special. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and we felt completely at home. Saying goodbye was truly difficult, but there is no doubt—we will definitely be returning!

United StatesWe liked everything!
My husband and I loved our stay at Skala Inn. The owners and the entire staff were wonderful and go out of their way to make your stay worth it. The breakfast is lovely, there are 3 shuttle buses for the ski lifts all within a 5 min walk from the Inn. And plenty of restaurants and bars within a 15 minute walk. The hospitality was top notch and we would stay here again for sure!

AustraliaThere is nothing I can report on here.
From the moment we were picked up from the bus station, to the time we were dropped back off our stay was incredible. The family run inn was the perfect mix of a traditional Japanese stay and modern comfort. The other guests mingled well - there were no kids, and was all adult guests. The morning breakfasts were so fresh and delicious. The bus stop to the ski resorts were just a few seconds walk, and about a 8 min walk to restaurant row. I would absolutely stay here again.
