Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaWe booked the traditional room which was not that comfortable for a 2 nights. The location is great, right at the happo-one chairlift. The breakfast was good and staff really nice. Just that one time that we couldn’t understand each other for the luggage service, so the girl at the front desk went to speak with the others including the lady in charge and I went to tell them if it’s too complicated we can drop it since we didn’t want to make it a thing, and she just ignored me and continue speaking in Japanese between each other and I was still left in the dark. Besides that for the location and good breakfast, I would recommend with a normal bed.

United StatesThe walk from the bus station is really difficult when you have luggage and snowboard bags.
The best part of the property was how close it was to the Happo One Gondola and all the surrounding restaurants.

AustraliaWe arrived at 2am which is quite usual for us. We've visited hakuba 7 times from Australia. Our beds were sleeping mats on the floor Japanese style. Heating in our small room was very effective. We went down for breakfast at 8.30am after reading a laminated info sheet in our room that said breakfast was available from 7am until 10am. The hostess told us that breakfast was finished but we could buy breakfast for 2200 yen plus 550 yen for coffee. Hmm. We misunderstood this brochure. A small complimentary Breakfast is served to guests at the hotel between 7 and 730am. A half hour window. It was adequate. We had shared toilets (2) on our floor for 6 double and triple rooms. 2 out of 5 wash basins were operating. None of the bidets worked. The seats were heated. The 2 showers were downstairs as were 3 more rooms for guests and other rooms for staff. We were never unable to use the shower due to it being occupied which was surprising. A nice restaurant was part of the guesthouse serving attractive dishes. Not cheap or large portions but good quality dishes. Staff were friendly and personable.

AustraliaWe originally booked the double bed room, however, it was far too small for a couple (bed is 120cm wide). We moved to a twin room for the last two nights which was more comfortable. The walls are not sound proof though and at times we struggled sleeping as people came home loud and late at night. There are only two showers so we did have to queue at times. You cannot get taxis to the accommodation, and the walk through the forest and snow with two suitcases was not easy.
The staff were all lovely and helpful. The restaurant on site had great food. The bathrooms were kept clean. Only a short walk to the gondola for skiing.

FranceA shame that there is no onsen. Worse…no water jet toilet in spite of seeing the controls. 😢 Also, a bit tough to find the quick access path the first time, and the path was sometimes dangerously slippery. Be aware also that the WC is shared by all rooms, and not every floor has a shower.
Amazing staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Charming, small hotel. Very good food in the restaurant. Short 5-10 minute walk to the best slopes and numerous restaurants, ski equipment rentals.

AustraliaThe accessibility of the guest house was tricky especially with luggage if getting off the H bus. The laneway from the road was steep and icy. Information about this before arriving from the guest house would have helpful. The breakfast with coffee supplied was nice but I had to pay for a cup of tea as this was not supplied.
The traditional rooms were nice. Having a kettle and a microwave available to heat up snacks were handy. The restaurant was perfect for dinner on the first night after a long day of travelling to Hakuba. The ski room was great for drying your gear.

AustraliaThe rooms were a little dusty
The property is so cute, with an incredibly happy and polite team who welcome and look after you the entire time. It has a very cultural and homely feel which is perfect if you’re looking to immerse yourself in Japan instead of a big hotel chain. The staff including Timo were amazing and they were able to cook us a special sukiyaki on our final night which was incredible!

New ZealandThe room and bathrooms were a little cold. If we didn't have the extra bedding we would have been freezing. Bathrooms could be a little cleaner but weren't too bad.
The food was absolutely incredible although a little on the expensive side for japan. The staff was awesome as well! Most spoke pretty well english and were very friendly.

AustraliaVERY small double bed. The ski room had no heating. Most nights were noisy with inconsiderate guests coming back drunk and waking everyone up.
Convenient location close to the gondola and within walking distance of restaurants (you have to use the shortcut). Breakfast was nice to start the day. Good budget accommodation for Hakuba.

New ZealandAccess to the property itself. Getting from the Happo bus terminal to the accommodation with luggage was difficult as there were no taxi’s available at the time due to the magnitude of tourists visiting at the time. I was able to catch the free shuttle to a stop that was a 10mins walk to the accommodation, however as I wasn’t familiar with the area, I walked up a steep hill with all my luggage and wasn’t aware of the shortcut through the trees that would’ve made it easier. This did not deter me from my pleasant stay, it’s just something to be aware of for future stay.
An intimate bed & breakfast. I really enjoyed the homey feeling of the place and the staff were all very kind and helpful. We were provided a breakfast meal as part of our stay which I really enjoyed. I also dined in at the restaurant during my stay and every meal I ate was absolutely delicious and my favourite part of my stay here.

AustraliaThere are options in Hakuba with onsens which Is not available here.
Our family of 5 adults enjoyed 6 nights in Hakuba in three rooms at Guest House Zu-Thones for our 5th trip to Hakuba. We stayed in tatami mat rooms on futons which we always enjoy. There are also rooms with western beds The location is just up from Happo-One gondola. One piece of advice is to make sure you take the path through the trees, avoiding the steep road. We would recommend getting a taxi on arrival and organising a taxi when leaving as it is a fair walk to the bus terminal. The shuttle buses for other resorts leave from / stop at the Happo One gondola so this was close by also. Breakfast was always good with the hot plate varied each day through 3 or 4 options.

ChinaThe location is hard to find and not easy to access if you arrive with a heavy suitcase. Go with the red flag direction to a narrow pass in Woods and you will find the Bar. The bed mat is too soft, and the quilts are too narrow.
The house has a restaurant and the room fee includes breakfast. Dinner is popular and you need to reserve the seats. It's 200 meters from the Adam Gondola(Happo-One) .
