Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe room was small for three people but we managed just fine. The location is nice and quiet in the countryside but it is far from stores, you just need to be prepared. It was worth it for a change of pace from staying in towns and cities. There is no air conditioning but we didn't need it during our stay in mid-August
The hosts are wonderful, so friendly, helpful and polite. As other reviewers stated the guest house Yamada was a unique and memorable experience for our Japan trip. We experienced exceptional Japanese hospitality. The local onsen was fun experience too.

CanadaNeed to drive to go to ski resorts but coming from Canada this was no big deal for us
We came to Hokkaido to snowboard at Niseko/Rusutsu in February, and this place was a wonderful cozy home stay for our trip! You definitely need a car to get here, and it's about an 1hr drive to either ski resort. However, despite the distance, the place was really warm and clean, and the hosts made us feel at home. Every day they provided a variety of breakfast and coffee, cleared snow off our car, checked in on us to see if we made it to the nearby onsen for our evening baths, and even had laundry. There are mini heaters in the room that are powerful enough to keep the room warm, and the blankets provided are so comfy! The hosts themselves are incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay here!!

SwitzerlandNothing, I simply regret that I could only spend so little time there
While pretty remote it was very easy to access by public transports (only a 40 minutes bus ride from Datemombetsu station), the place itself is beautiful, and most importantly Yamada-san is probably the most helpful and attentive person I've met in Japan, she made us delicious ramen and helped us book a hotel !

New ZealandThe room and bathroom are quite cramped (like usually in Japan), so there is not a lot of space. The bathroom was pretty small as well (shared bath), but due to the onse mn we just used it for brushing the teeth, so it was alright.
The hostess was amazing. We had a lovely stay and would definetly stay again. The breakfast was really good, there was toast, some buns, many jams and salad. And tea, coffee and milk was available as well. An onsen is close by and free to use in the evening, the hostess prepared a full onsen set for us to use and gave us an onsen discount pass for other onsens in the area. It is close to the lake toya and onsen area. The room was really comfortable and we had a good sleep. Parking was available as well.

ThailandAs a female solo traveler, I felt safe and comfortable staying with the host and her family. When I arrived, the mother and her son greeted me at the door. Although I do not speak Japanese, and they do not speak English. We were able to communicate by using our Google Translate seamlessly. The accommodation has everything you need, and the host is willing to go out of her way to make your stay the most comfortable. It is essential to have your mode of transportation as the location is far and not within walking distance. However, it is worth it if you want to explore Hokkaido. If I am lucky, I hope to come back here to stay again. Even though Japan is not my home, this accommodation made me feel as it were.

Very lovely hosts, made us breakfast every morning and even drove us an hour and a half away to the Noboribetsu station because we had made a mistake. Also drove us to the bus station because we were running late. Very very kind

AustraliaThe onsen down the road is free, and the shower was great, but the pool was so hot that I couldn't use it at all.

Belgium- I am a light sleeper and noise isolation between the rooms is quite thin. I could hear my neighbors talking and every other noise in the house.
- the location is on a quiet road next to a river, surrounded by nature - the host is very caring. She gives out a lovely energy that made me feel welcome in her house - the welcome glass of cold tea
