How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe host was so friendly and helpful! He explained the different options for cycling the Shimanami Kaido and we rented bikes from the guesthouse for a good price. On our first evening we had arrived a bit late and there were no restaurants open nearby, so the host lent us bikes for free to cycle to a restaurant! And on our last day, when we missed the bus, he drove us to the ferry himself! He and his wife could not have made us feel more welcome. Would recommend to anyone wishing to cycle the Shimanami Kaido.

Verified reviewThe host is absolutely amazing and really goes out of his way to ensure you have what you need. A very nice family loves in this house and it was a pleasure to stay there.
It's not a deal breaker but it is about a twenty minute walk from the ferry. You will need to walk about five to ten minutes from the JR station to get to the ferry. The trip is very short across the water and cost 100 yen. Even with that, I would definitely stay at this place again, the customer service is outstanding.

It is about 1.5 km from the ferry terminal, and takes about 20 minutes by foot, but the ferry is quite picturesque, and there is a large supermarket on the way, and you can also see the shipyard on the way. There are not many buses, but we recommend taking the bus from Onomichi Station for those who want to get there easily. We hope you will come to our inn again on the Onomichi Shimanami Kaido. Verified reviewExcellent location at the outset of the Shimanami Kaido cycle route just a few minutes away by ferry which we had to take anyway to get to the start of our ride. The guesthouse is a lovely family run heaven with a super kind host who let us leave our heavy luggage at his house during our ride and we collected on the way back. Very comfortable, convenient, reasonably priced - would highly recommend.

This is not walkable from the main town, you either need to get the bus or the ferry over and walk. Bus stop is number 7 outside main station, very easy, less than 10 minutes on the bus

Verified reviewThe beds were clean and comfortable. We were given a lift to the station in the morning. Communication was good.
It is well out of town and not easy to get to. The owner however provides a lift but we didn’t realise at first and got a taxi. The road nearby the guesthouse is quite noisy.
Thank you for choosing us out of the many options. Our inn is not located near Onomichi Station, but it is about a 10-minute drive from the station. Our inn does not employ staff, and is run by family only, so we do not generally provide shuttle services. On the morning of check-out, we drove a guest who had come by public transportation to a nearby ferry terminal because it was raining heavily and the bus would not arrive immediately, so we drove the guest to a nearby ferry terminal. This is not a free service that we usually provide as an inn, but we do it with the hope that the guest will be happy. The guest was the last to arrive by public transportation, so we took him to Shin-Onomichi Station as requested, but we are very sorry if he felt that he had lost money by taking a taxi there. In the past, we had done as much as we could to make our guests happy, but we felt that this could sometimes lead to misunderstandings. Next time, we will be careful not to cause misunderstandings and make the guest happy.
