Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaSpace in the upper room was ok, a bit cramped for luggage but not the end of the world. Shower room was a bit stuffy but again not a deal breaker
The lounge area was spacious, air-conditioned and well restored to allow a gathering place for my party to hangout and debrief the days activities. Sitting behind a cafe was fantastic allowing for seamless access and luggage hold, and extra bathrooms if needed

PortugalThe toilet is down an outside hall, which was fine for us because we had nice weather and the garden area with pond is beautiful. There was mention of bathrooms in the cafe but we did not look for them.
We arrived on a Wednesday and the cafe was closed so it was very quiet and peaceful. The door to the cafe was open and there was a welcome sign with our name on it as we approached the back where the stay is located. There were very nice dishes, glasses, coffee cups, etc. The bunk beds were comfortable and the drapes for privacy were a plus. We went for a sake tasting down the street which was simple but nice. We really enjoyed our stay here and would love to come back and stay longer. If you’re eating in town, you must make reservations!

Our group of 4 friends stayed overnight before we started our Nakasendo in Magome the next morning. The house was situated a short walk from the train station. the front section operates as a cafe during the day. The property is well renovated inside and suitable for big groups. Kitchen, washing machine and dryer handy. Located in a quaint street with charming historic houses. Too bad we had to leave early morning to hike, would have loved to try out the breakfast and coffee in the cafe in front!

New ZealandEverything was as per photos and description, so we knew what we were getting. The bathrooms are downstairs (fairly steep) from the bedroom, so may not suit families either young children (ours are 11 and 12 - it was perfectly fine).
Lots of character and good location amongst historical buildings. Our children liked the bunk beds that were enclosed.

SingaporePillows were very soft. This was our only complaint. Everything else was fantastic.
My family loved our stay here and were sad to leave. Beautiful, traditional-style guesthouse, with our own external courtyard. Located along the old Nakasendo, amidst lots of old shops. Just across the street from a traditional confectioner’s and sake brewery.

Czech RepublicGreat place. You have the place for yourself, so it is especially good for larger groups. Kitchen, living room, a lot of space. Also a great start for Nakasendo if you are planning to go. Do not take a bus to Magome, instead, start walking from Ochiai (中山道石標), so you won't miss the cobblestone path.

TaiwanWe stayed here during our trip to Magomejuku. The living room, stocked with plenty of board games, was a delightful bonus for our family. The bunk beds were a hit with my kids as well, though naturally, they weren’t as comfortable or spacious as those in a good hotel. Walking through the beautifully preserved old streets in the neighborhood was also a real joy.

ItalyThe bedroom is wholly occupied by the two bunk beds. The bunk beds are basically wooden containers with a single opening on one side (the opening is half the side). It's claustrophobic and the smell of wood is pungent. The WC is not smart and it's on the other side of the small garden. They provide only one towel per person and there are no hooks to hang them. There is no storage space for clothes and you have to keep them in your luggage in the living room on the ground floor (the bedroom is up a tiny staircase).
Lovely accommodation in a 130-year hundred old renovated house. The living room opens on a small green inner garden with a small pond. The kitchen is tiny but fully equipped. Everything is very clean. Indeed the entrance is at the back of a coffee shop, but apart from being weird it is no big deal. The surrounding area has traditional buildings and restaurants are not far away. There is a parking place around the corner and it's free of charge.
