If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese get away, with delicious food and welcoming people, then I would highly recommend Hacho no Yu! Honestly such an incredible experience :)!

The baths are exceptional! The journey there is an adventure and the food is delightful. It is a full immersive experience that cannot be topped!

Phone service can be a little troublesome but the wifi is good.

Amazing ryokan in Nikko National Park. Perfect location to totally disconnect from the world and just relax. Facilities were great, outside baths were amazing. Room was clean, warm and comfortable. Excellent food and great staff. A hidden gem. Would certainly visit again and recommend to friends.

The remote location only could have been better had we stayed 2 nights. Would love to visit again in autumn.

This is my second time at Hatcho No Yu, and I will go back every time I’m in Japan. There’s no better place to escape from the world. From the food, to the room, the staff and the location, everything is absolutely perfect. It truly is a hidden hotspring inn with everything that comes to mind when you think of what one would be.

This is not an issue, just a note to those who would go, Hatcho No Yu takes a while to get to. That is what makes it great, because you really can escape from the world. Just give yourself time to get there and back, and give yourself at least a couple days there to really enjoy it.

Everything was perfect. Room warm and comfortable, staff was very accommodating and spoke brilliant english, dinner and breakfast were something out of this world. Baths are also exceptional and I was even gifted by the good weather to have an opportunity to bathe when it was snowing and then observe the starry sky. Location is fantastic.

If only the transfer schedule was a little more clear. Adding that transfer will come to meet you for every bus coming to Meotobuchi (instead of having 16:30 as time when last transfer departs, which is an hour before the last bus) would definitely help.

The location is amazing because it is in the middle of a national forest. However, it was difficult to reach and difficult to find information on how to reach the parking lot where the free shuttle bus picked us up to take us to the inn. It would be very helpful if Hacho no Yu had specific instructions/details on how to reach the parking lot from Nikko or a mapcode for the parking lot.

There was no coffee early in the morning. Small detail, but we're Americans. haha.

Food was amazing, environment is great, the design is consistent and interesting. The baths were also good.

Long (1h+) check-in and food preparation times at early bus arrivals - somewhat understaffed to meet peak demand. Additionally, due to the nature of the facility, expect common areas etc. to be cold during winter - thermostat in the guest room was initially set at 18c before requesting it to be turned up (you cannot do this yourself), after which the room was comfortable 20+c.
