Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesA five star stay no doubt. The owner, Akira, was extremely attentive to all of his guests, and even offered to drive me to the gondola entrance. The private onsen was fantastic, and the bedroom was very comfortable. It was in a great location with local festivals nearby. I hope to go back on my next trip, and it was a highlight of my vacation.

SpainEverything was impeccable and the spaces are all very cozy. The private bath was a such a treat. We loved the views from the room and shared spaces as the house is next to the forest. Akira is an awesome host. Even though we stayed here during green (and rainy) season, he gave us lots of recommendations of things to do around the area. He speaks English fluently so communication was very easy. Can’t recommend enough!

United KingdomNothing it was all great!
The lodge was beautiful and Akira was a lovely host. He kindly picked us up from the bus stop and dropped us back and helped us with local recommendations. We felt extremely welcome. We enjoyed our room and balcony, and the private bath, and had some delicious meals at local restaurants! Would love to come back in the winter season for some skiing.

TaiwanWe had an amazing time! The lodge is modern, super comfy, and Akira along with the whole team were fantastic. Even though we visited at the end of the season and were the only guests, they made sure we had everything we needed. Every morning, they prepared breakfast just for us, and we absolutely looooved every dish. The location was perfect for exploring the area. Can’t wait to come back!

United StatesToo much snow. I love skiing, but ski areas were literally getting buried on the upper slopes. The lodge parking lot and walkways were always cleared. I need to return to Hakuba Third Place Lodge soon to see the mountains on a clear day. I'm sure the mountains are beautiful..but never saw grand vistas, just endless powder snow.
Great, friendly place. Super helpful host. Facility is clean and comfy, but not a 5 star, pretenious resort / spa (no turn down service or chocolates on your pillow -but if this is an existential crisis for you, I'm certain you would be accomodated..but I'd recommend therapy.) Good breakfast. Location is very good, but not ski in, ski out; 10 minute or so walk to lifts. Minimal night life and restaurants super close, but free bus service is available. I highly recommend and sincerely hope to return to Hakuba Third Place Lodge again soon.

AustraliaIt is not a ski in ski out hotel - About 5-7min walk to chair lifts. But didn’t bother us as there was pick up and drop off when we had luggage. And good warm up in the morning before skiing!
This place is a hidden gem in Hakuba! Lots of things we loved: - Most friendly staff who care so much about the comfort of our stay - Great breakfast: Warm meals that varied daily + yummy continental - Mostly modern and clean facilities. Loved the hot bath and private bath - Great location: So many good choices for food within 5-10 min of walk - Attention to detail: Owner thought of everything, eg how long it takes for heater to work

United StatesThe owner was wonderful and very helpful. He genuinely cared for our safety during abnormally heavy snowfall and communicated clearly about the lodges' facilities. He was also very kind and understanding even though we had a larger group that could be difficult to manage. I highly recommend Third Lodge for their trip to Hakuba!

AustraliaI learned on the first day that the 250m walk uphill to the ski field is not far, but can make you feel hot in all the ski gear.. Best to wear minimal gear until you get to the ski area, then put it on. After we did that, we were fine.
This Lodge was a perfect place for us to stay in Hakuba. The Goryu ski field is walking distance away (maybe 250m), and the host, Akira, and his staff could not have been more helpful or made us feel more welcome. This place really felt like home for 7 nights, we enjoyed every minute of it.

AustraliaNothing, loved it all :)
Absolutely LOVED the stay here and will definitely be staying again. Akira was so kind and helpful , always willing to help and makes you feel so welcome. The rest of the staff were lovely too. It has such a warm and homely feeling to the place whilst also having your own privacy. The private hot tub was amazing after a long day snowboarding/skiing. It’s also only a quick walk up to goryu slopes which was handy. I will definitely be back!!

New ZealandAmazing stay at Habuka First Place Lodge. Akira and the staff were so friendly and eager to help out with any requests and make sure our stay was very comfortable. Akira picked us up from the train and dropped us off at the depot when we were leaving and offered discounts for the local ski field. He was only too happy to help us with anything and we greatly appreciated the free use of the snow boots to get around the village. Would recommend staying here and would stay again. Thanks, Arika and everyone at the lodge

AustraliaSimilar to other reviews on here we loved our stay at Hakuba Third Place Lodge! Staying in Goryu was a perfect base from which to explore the Hakuba Valley and the hospitality, generosity and kindness from Akira and his team really made our stay truly memorable. There are great amenities such as the dry room, laundry room, and male/female and private onsen (such a treat at the end of a day on the slopes) and the rooms are warm, spacious, clean, and well appointed. Breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully put together each day and we appreciated the small touches like Akira’s restaurant recommendations, treats and frozen meals available for sale, and the shared living room to watch Netflix. We felt super at home and cared for during our stay and can’t wait to come back. Thank you so much Akira and the Third Place Lodge team for making our stay so special and we wish you a good rest of the snow season :).

New ZealandThe ski lodge is clean, well equipped and large. Our room was very large and had everything we needed. Desks in the rooms made it easy for when I had to hop on to some remote work. The breakfast was consistently lovely, and the baths so beautifully hot. Only a short walk to the Goryu lifts. But above and beyond that all is Akira and his team - they are all such welcoming friendly people. We hope to be back one day!

United StatesI’ll write this in English such that everyone could possibly get my opinion. This place is surprisingly good, it has a great location Goryu Escal plaza within walkable distance (appr. 6mins). And Goryu is the only one resort which has the night operation hours, so take advantage of that. Plenty of food options near the lodge. I was traveling alone and I had my good dining every night, get some local foods and beers what a great combination! Speaking of combo, this place has two Onsen (Hot tub) one private with little of extra charge and one public. It’s just a wonderful thing to do after days and days of skiing or snowboarding. For those who didn’t drive you should be fine as said this place has great location so you will be able to get back in multiple ways. Akira, the owner of this lodge and a skater from Tokyo, was being super helpful and informative to every of his guests, his crew members were very friendly it’s just a home place to stay at. They pick you up and drop you off at the nearest bus/train stop. They provide traffic information, map handouts, and discount tickets. Thanks to this place gave me the most impressive experience during my first visit in Japan. Arigato!

We loved our stay at Hakuba Third Place Lodge. Akira is the best host ever and went out of his way to help us so many times. He even bought 3 snow sleds for our kids to play with on our day off from skiing. What host joins in with kids during snowball fights?!? Akira did!! We all had a great time, and the kids all said that they would miss him. We will stay here again in a heartbeat when we can get back to Hakuba. ❤️❤️❤️

United KingdomHakuba Third Place Lodge is one of my favourite places I’ve stayed. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. Everything was spotless, and the private bath was beautifully designed and so relaxing after a day on the slopes. Akira and his team were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and efficient, always making sure we had everything we needed. The included breakfast was absolutely delicious. The location is ideal—just minutes from the ski slopes and close to lovely bars and restaurants. We can’t wait to come back! Thank you Akira and the team.
