Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOur room was a bit small, but we got it for a good price thanks to my Genius discount so can’t really complain!
The design of the property was very stylish, comfortable and relaxing. It’s in a fab location in Gion - quiet and full of culture and character, and within walking distance of many of the best historic sites in the city. The staff were soooo kind and friendly and helpful. The shower was really hot and powerful. I was also happy to have good coffee-making facilities. We generally fell in love with Kyoto and had a great time in the city.

Clean and spacious. Close to the train lines to access everywhere around Kyoto and Arashiyama. Amazing staff who were so nice and helpful. Comfortable beds, lovely shower and tub area, with warm toilet seats! We were in the heart of everything, seemed like. Quiet despite tons of people down the block walking the streets. Laundry machine easy to operate that already includes laundry detergent. Keyless entry using codes for both external access and room access.

United StatesExcellent location for walking around the Geisha district and close to the market as well. Several close transportation options and the river is nearby too. The people working there are very helpful and friendly and provided maps and many suggestions for visiting different locations. There is a Nespresso coffee machine in the room as well as one in the lobyy. The room was cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. The bathroom had a lovely, deep cedar tub for soaking.

We traveled as a family. The hotel graciously placed our grandmother in a single room on the same floor, which was very helpful. The rooms are very spacious, and having a little balcony was a wonderful addition. We had linked up with a friend in the area, and it was nice to have a drink on the balcony instead of crowding into and sitting on the beds in the room. My room was shared with my husband and two teen boys. The western style beds were exceedingly comfortable. The little tatami mat room with futons was perfect for the teens. They loved the traditional style and could close the shoji screen when they wanted privacy. The bathroom was large, and the tub and shower were lovely after a long day of sightseeing. The little kitchenette was a great way to get a quick coffee in the morning before starting the day, and the owner of the hotel was wonderful in assisting with sightseeing plans. The laundry facilities were a welcome bonus.

United KingdomMy only suggestion would be for there to be a few hooks installed in the bathroom and a large ironing board as an amenity option as ironing dresses on the small one was very tricky!
We absolutely loved our stay at rinn gion. It’s a quaint boutique hotel in the heart of gion near many beautiful shrines, shopping facilities and public transport. The rooms themselves are stunning with lovely little touches and every amenity you could need. Our room had a gorgeous view of a shrine just opposite the hotel and the rooms were spacious and had a little kitchen area and seating area. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and accommodated our every need and request. They also gave us tips and recommendations for our itinerary and showed a keen interest in helping us make the most out of our stay in Kyoto! It was my daughters 4th birthday during our stay there and when we got back from a day of exploring the hotel staff had bought her a beautiful tiara and some Disney princess origami paper as a gift which was so kind and generous! She was so happy and excited. We stayed in two more ‘commercial’ hotels in Tokyo and Osaka and nothing compared to the more personalable service recieved in Rinn Gion Kyoto!

United StatesThe only thing I wish they had was instructions on how to control the air conditioner and the lights. It’s not on them. I’m just dumb.
First off the staff was excellent. I loved meeting everyone and they were so knowledgeable about places to go and restaurants to eat at since I’m walking 20,000 steps a day the beautiful bathroom and the Eun was such a nice luxury that saved my feet. Additionally, I was able to try different Japanese skin care brands using some of the samples that they offer on site. The hotel stuff were so nice and the rooms are kept clean. I loved it there.

United StatesThe hotel was very pricey and a few additional amenities would have been nice... a welcome basket or an afternoon tea. More information about excursions or concierge service for cultural tickets.
The location was perfect! Easy access to the historical districts and markets, yet on a quiet, safe, side street. The hotel was spotless and smelled wonderful. We used the soaker tub every day, especially after averaging 25K steps a day. Lovely fluffy bathrobe and slippers Staff was helpful and gracious at every turn. This hotel is a gem.
