Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaDecor etc a bit dated, and space quite tight.
Came for the fireworks but they were cancelled due to the wind.....ah well. Easy enough to find. Quirky spot with a number of small "shops" in the complex

United StatesOnly issue was lack of amenities if you’re an early riser and the alarm system that was activated as I sought to explore the town early in the morning.
Absolutely adorable. Staff was super friendly and helpful, speaking enough english to make the stay easy. And the dinner was very yummy.

AustraliaStaff limited english but easy to get by esp with google's help. Some cutlery and crockery in room would have been nice.
Small little place tucked away from the crowds. Restaurant on site. Very close to the Big Buddha and Hasadera Temple. Easy walk into Kamakura if don't want to catch the very train at Hase stop.

United StatesCheck in process was more laborious than necessary. The Okinawa Beach theme didn't really fit with the general Kamakura atmosphere.
The general funky vibe. Not traditional rooms by either Western or Japanese standards, but clean, comfortable and fun.

NetherlandsCool beach-themed hotel near grand Buddha statue. This is a really cool and quirky hotel. I’ve never seen something like this before. You really have to see and enjoy all the over-the-top details. The owner is really nice and funny. The rooms have all amenities and nice beds. One big minus point however is that the room is really small and filled with furniture, so you don’t have much space left to walk or move around. Especially at the table that’s really uncomfortable. I bumped my feet and head five times in one day. Furthermore, one ceiling window does not have a curtain which unpleasantly illuminates the bedroom in the morning.

GermanyWe had two very pleasent days at this very colourful designed location, just next to the great buddha, Hase-Dera temple and just 3 minutes to the beach. The hotel has a quiet space inside , you can sit and enjoy drinks and food. The rooms are clean and have enough space, the beds where a bit small but comfortable.

JapanThe room was so cluttered. Like others have written, there are simply too many decorations/ornaments in the room. The room isn't large and the decorations/ornaments take up a lot of space that guests could use to put their luggage. Unfortunately, the shell bedside lamp did not work and the wifi did not work well.
The two male staff members were great. They were helpful and friendly. One female staff member who brought a paper for us to fill out at check in was not. The air conditioning worked well which was great as it is hot in July. The bathroom was very new and everything was clean. The hotel is easy to find and it is in a great location. Though the room was not large at all, the high ceilings made it seem more spacious.

JapanThe walls were thin and the outdoor lights could be seen from inside the rooms. For that reason I would hesitate if I was a light sleeper (I'm not, so this didn't bother me at all). The wifi needs to reconnect every hour and that was a little troublesome. The western included breakfast option isn't the greatest so I recommend the Japanese option which was just right.
Uniquely decorated property made the perfect stay for my friend's birthday trip. The gift shop has a great selection of items. The staff were incredibly friendly and the in-house restaurant was delicious. Beds were very comfy, bathroom was clean, and a very short walk from a Yuigahama beach, the famous Enoden Train, and popular places like Enoshima/ Kamakura. Lots of other good cafes and restaurants in the area and the Japanese included breakfast was delicious.

United StatesKitchen area very cramped. Not much room for eating. Too many decorations. Did not have any information about breakfast, but we loved the ebi furia prawns for dinner.
Since the weather was not good, we couldn't fully appreciate our stay. We hired a taxi to see some shrines and Budda. Kamakura/Haas was a welcome change from the crowded conditions of Tokyo. Wish we could have stayed longer. Although the cottage sent immediate confirmation after I said arrival around 11am, they were not ready for us. Owner provided us with a warm place to sit and dry out while he got the room ready. The younger man in the gift shop was very pleasant and helpful.
