Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIf I had to be picky, the kitchen was perfectly usable but had very little countertop space. None of the toilets have sinks (you have to leave the toilet and use the sink separately), but that seems to be a general Japanese thing, from what I've seen? Bear in mind that this guest house is quite close to the train track, so you will hear the trains at night. I liked it, I found the ambient noise nice and calming, but if you are very sensitive to noise, you might want to bring some earplugs.
I loved staying here! It felt very homely and cosy - the kind of guest house where people say "itte rasshai" and "tadaima" to each other. The staff were very hospitable and added a personal touch to my stay. It seems that once a week, the housekeeper cuts some fresh flowers and arranges them on the table. It felt more as if you were staying in someone's house than in a hostel. It was so easy to make friends, too, and that was definitely the best part! The place was largely clean, and the facilities were very good. I loved that there was a water dispenser with icy cold and boiling hot water, which was so perfect for cups of tea, coffee (free) or instant ramen. Which, by the way, you can conveniently purchase from a little table in the lobby, alongside other small essentials in case you've forgotten any. You can rent a large towel, but you also get a small free one. There are several supermarkets, restaurants and conbinis close by, as well as a bus stop and a train station, with a train that gets you into Sendai in 15 minutes. The neighbourhood is very pleasant if you fancy a stroll there, too. I had an amazing time and would love to come back! Please enjoy staying at Hibari Guesthouse :)

CanadaThe accommodation was a little far (30mins) from Sendai city core.
Hibari Guesthouse was surprisingly nothing short of amazing and one of the most wonderful experiences I ever had in my life and probably will ever have wherein travel is concerned. It is hard to believe that I had stumbled upon a jewel having made absolutely no research prior to arriving in Japan. All of the staff at Hibari Guesthouse had made sure that every moment of every day of my vacation was to be perfect as they put so much effort to take care of my every need--from amenities, travel information to general host-guest relations and services. I had stayed and booked to stay with them for an entire month (29 days) and even then it all feels still too short for living a slice of heaven. I had a longtime personal vacation planned to visit Japan for more than a year and ultimately decided to tour around the prefecture (province/state) of Miyagi and having Sendai city as my main travel hub point and praying on the plane ride over hoping I had made the right choice thinking and planning over many months of a vacation in Okinawa or Kyuushu instead. This hostel made my vacation/travel nothing short of extraordinary and made me realize i had made the best choice in my life. The staff were extremely wholesome and their friendliness and guest services was astonishingly homely. (Both Japanese and English speaking friendly) It was perfect.

SingaporeThat I had to leave.
It was a wonderful 2N stay at this wonderful cozy house. Met a few very interesting fellow guest, and a lovely short chat with Miki-san ... The house is just a couple of stops from Sendai Station on the airport line. There're 2 huge supermarkets near the station (Coop and Ito) that I absolutely adore. I was in Sendai for the Haikyuu!! 10th Anniversary exhibition but I see myself returning often, even for a long stay. Hope to stay here again!

IndiaThe location was a bit far (5.5 km) from the station area. However, I liked taking the local line from Sendai to Taisheido and walking from the Taisheido station to the guesthouse as I could explore more of the city.

FranceThe guesthouse is a bit far from Sendai which does not make it convenient to drop off your luggage in advance. You need to check-in on your own with a tablet at the entrance. There were two tablets, one for check-in and one to pay (the biggest one that you notice right away). I already paid online but the tablet said I didn't. I almost paid twice without noticing. I saw the second tablet afterwards and it said I already paid. It was a bit confusing.
The guesthouse was really calm. There was everything I needed. The beds were quite big. There was a space to put your belongings (phone, glasses) next to your bed.

NetherlandsBeds are a bit squeaky.
The hosts and cleaning staff are absolute gems. So friendly and genuinely kind and curious about why you traveled there. They’re very talkative and show they care about their guests. When I told them I was there for the football game they even got me a shirt the next day. How kind is that?? I really wanna come back :) Location is good too, despite being out of the city. Therefore it’s actually quite peaceful and relaxing. The train doesn’t take long and it’s not too far to walk. The local area around the guesthouse has everything you need as well.
