    Great house and fantastic hosts

The waterfront wasn't very exciting - very different to most of Australia, where we are from. We were just passing through though, so this wasn't a problem at all.

The staff were extremely friendly and we had a great chat with both of the people who helped us out. We really liked staying in a traditional Japanese house - we got a chance to see what they are like, which was interesting. There was space for our bikes out the back and there was a dryer available (just as well because we were very wet!).

It was peaceful, like a well appointed Japanese cottage. It had space for privacy and space for community. There was lots of info around to become informed on what the town had to offer. You could feel the love and care that the owners give it.

Our room in this old Japanese house was spacious and very comfortable. The staff welcomed us warmly and immediately made us at home. The bar, with its chatty hostess, was an added bonus.

nothing, it was great value for money and an informal easy place to stay for the night.

beautiful house, now turned into a shared space to stay. It was a private residence and is beautiful but was never designed to be a hotel or anything like that. The rooms are private but noise travels. The hosts make sure there are strict rules about when normal noise should stop, 12 at the latest. It was quiet from 10pm when we stayed. Road noise was a bit of an issue in early morning from 6 or so, but we were kind of getting up then anyway. I can imagine the house is gorgeous in warmer weather as the doors and walls all slide open and the garden is lovely. Bar and facilities are all great additions as is the local knowledge and tips.

The check in time is from 4pm to 8pm, only 4hours, the shortest compared to other accommodations based on my experience. If you arrive after 8pm, you will be charged $500 per 30 minutes.

The house was beautiful and cosy. The room was the perfect size and clean. It is located, 7 minutes from the train station by foot and 2 minutes from the information center where you can rent a bike for free. It was perfect to go to Ioki cave, I totally recommend to go there it was gorgeous. Aki has a lot to offer. The hotel will provide you a map with all interest points and a lot of restaurant recommendations. The staff is incredible. All of them was so nice to me. We ate together sometimes. It made my journey even more enjoyable. By night the main area of the hotel transform into a local bar. It is really quiet so if you want to stay in your room you will not be bothered by any noise. But if you like to interact with locals it will be the perfect opporrunity for you.

Unique, re-furbished old place (in a paper and wood domestic land of fire, earthquake, typhoon and tsunami, "old place" is as rare as hen's kimonos). Helpful and enthusiastic staff. Very cool room. Super isakaya just down the street, oh man! Oh wow!

I might be able to find something to help brighten up this beautiful house even more in the next visit.

Azumi, the owner of Kochi-no-ya presented our 2 familes a great comfort where we could stay safe in the first trip to Kochi prefecture. Even during the Japanese high season, she was kind and considerate enough to help reserve the bus transport and nice local restaurant that serves oishii tataki and draft beer:) She didn't even hesitate to introduce nice local people and farmers and other valued informations. We already started dreaming to come back to this beautiful Aki city again to make a friendship with such a nice and sincere people who truly have their affection and pride in their home town and their lovely nature. Sentou san, Hontoni Arigatougizaimashita! Looking forward to seeing you again soon! Kind regards, Stephen Won

We felt at home. We stayed in the spacious tatami room with the garden view. The futons were very comfortable. The place has retro feel with the communal kitchen and bathroom. Three times a week, the hostel has a bar at night, and we visited with the owner and guests. It was a lot of fun!
