Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesWhat more do you want when you travel? A welcoming place to stay and a great bar and restaurant as well. Not only that, a kind and caring staff that had a bike mechanic come and fix my friends bike at 7:30 at night so that we could continue on our bike trip. So kind!

AustraliaUchikobare was more than accomodation. As soon as you entered you felt you were part of a community. Our host Yama created a welcoming and relaxed environment. Although this accomodation is suited to a younger backpacker traveller as a couple in our late 60's with suitcases we didn't feel out of place. The tour of a 90yr old cinema which was bound for demolition before Yama started renting it and trying to revive it was inspiring and a trip down memory lane. Would highly recommend a stay here if ever visiting the historical town of Uchiko

United StatesNothing. Stayed an extra night and would go back in a heartbeat.
Great spot with super hosts. Due to availability we stayed in dorm beds but they were quite comfortable and surprisingly quiet. Nice old building with lots of charm. Located right in the old center of the city close to everything. Kitchen, shower and toilet facilities are all very satisfactory. Living area is comfortable and meals available were really good. The host was really great - giving us info on a local festival that was a trip highlight, and taking us on a tour of a local movie theatre that is no longer in use but has incredible history.

United StatesI had a great stay at Hostel & Tatami Bar Uchikobare. It's a beautifully remodeled old house in a historic district projecting great charm and energy. The owner and his wife provided me with a warm welcome making me feel at home. The owner shared excellent dinner recommendations and helped me book a train ticket. I also connected with other travelers. A true highlight, highly recommended.

IrelandLovely hostel on a lovely old street. The owners were friendly and gave us an interesting tour of the local area. As the name says, there's a mar with nice craft beers and liquors. My dorm capsule was really spacious, I could stand up inside!

AustraliaDaisuke and his staff are very friendly and helpful. As walking Henro, with only basic Japanese, we particularly appreciated their assistance finding our next accommodation. The Sake tasting sets are great, as is the local Uchiko beer and the prepared dinners scrumptious. The guest house is located in an ideal location for exploring the fabulous old Uchiko houses, in short, thoroughly recommended.

United StatesDusty fans in my bunk & with cold weather and a long pilgrimage I worry about dust or mold in a bed area. Cluttered kitchen and common areas distract from the peaceful clean tatami area and bathrooms ~ it seemed more focus was on upselling the customer with foods, drinks, other sales than providing a comfortable clean space to enjoy with the customer. (Kitchen specifically)~ I wasn’t sure if this was a restaurant or a hostel, or a grocery store. A lot going on …
Welcoming entrance, nice vibes from the staff. Clean bathrooms, well lit, rooftop for smoking. Common areas were comfortable and the attempt to rebrand and sell small items is a nice thought.

JapanHonestly, it was an amazing stay! I didn't find anything I didn't like!
This property, located in the heart of downtown Uchiko, is an amazing little stay for travellers of all sorts. Firstly, the environment on the first floor was an amazing way to get to know both travellers and the staff. Several tables on comfortable tatami mats are on the first floor, with both a cafe and bar. Secondly, the staff are lovely, and are willing to accomodate for your requests. Finally, they have an awesome store full of locally made produce and crafts which allow you to bring home something to remember your trip by.

AustraliaA little far from the station by walking.
Fabulous little hostel, probably the best I've experienced in Japan. The owner and people working there are super nice and speak serviceable English. The dinner was delicious, it shocks me your typical restaurant can't match the quality on offer. The common space is lovely to relax in, and you can meet some nice people there. Close to the main historical part of town, and very reasonably priced.
