How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe had the absolute delight of staying at Hotel Soyokaze for our snowboarding trip in January. Our earlier accomodation hosts in Nagano knew Takao and his wife personally and spoke so highly of them - they are incredibly hospitable and make the hotel so homely, you look forward to coming back at the end of each day! They cook a banging breakfast, but it is continental rather than a traditional Japanese fish and rice set (which we would have preferred) - I would recommend booking that in early as there are limited numbers. There is an amazing private onsen that opens into the courtyard (beautiful in the snow), a huge, warm fireplace to enjoy an Asahi around and a drying room downstairs for your gear. The location in Echoland is arguably the best you could ask for - it is central to all of the restaurants and shops and a shuttle to the slopes stops within 100m. I can’t emphasise how generous, hard working and kind both Takao and his wife are - they cared for my very minor snowboarding injury, picked us up/drove us to the bus station and around Hakuba village and always had time to sit down around the fire to have a chat. We will stay with them next time we visit Hakuba for sure!

Verified reviewHotel Soyokaze felt like a home away from home. We loved everything about this hotel, especially Taka (owner) and his wife. Taka was so helpful and really made our stay so great. We really appreciate how Taka went above and beyond in helping us out with getting to and from the bus terminal, day passes for the resorts, and just being the most happy helpful host ever! The private onsen was amazing. The drying room with the laundry facilities was really great. The hotel decor felt so cosy and homely, we loved it and it was a nice change from the modern hotels. Everything was so clean and well looked after. We had everything we needed in our spacious room. Thanks again for everything Taka!
Nothing! Everything was perfect.

Verified reviewThe hosting couple were incredibly lovely and accommodating to us during our stay. Takao picked us up from the train station when we arrived and also dropped us off when it was time for us to leave. The room had its own bathroom, mini fridge, desk, coffee table, couch and plenty of space for luggage. There was also a storage room for snowboards and a laundry which you could pay 100 yen to use each time. Very generous price in my opinion and we were happy we had easy access to washing machines and dryers. The hotel also has its own private onsen which was incredible! We used it everyday after snowboarding. A perfect location too right in the heart of Echoland with bus stops and a wide range of restaurants surrounding. Would definitely stay there again.

Verified reviewMy stay at Hotel Soyokaze was truly wonderful! Located in Echoland, the hotel is surrounded by restaurants, bars, and a convenience store, making it super convenient. Plus, the free shuttle bus to Hakuba’s top ski resorts is just a 1-minute walk away (some stops are about 3 minutes), making it incredibly easy to hit the slopes. One of the best surprises was the room—it looked even better than in the photos! Clean, cozy, spacious room, and well-maintained, it was a perfect retreat after a long day in the snow. The private onsen was another highlight, which you can book at your preferred time—a perfect way to relax after a long day in the snow. They also offer discounted ski lift passes, which is a great bonus for skiers and snowboarders. But what really made my stay exceptional was Taka’s hospitality. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive, making sure everything was smooth from start to finish. His pick-up and drop-off service was a lifesaver, and he even helped carry my heavy luggage to my room and onto the car—something that not every hotel would do. His warm and welcoming nature truly made me feel at home, and his dedication to making guests comfortable is beyond impressive. If you're looking for a hotel with great location, excellent facilities, and outstanding hospitality, Hotel Soyokaze is the perfect choice. I would absolutely stay here again!

Verified reviewHaving the "onsen" hot pool was great to ease out my muscles after each days skiing. Takao san was very hospitable and accommodating. Breakfast availability was great so you could hit the slopes without having to sort that out. The location was very handy to the restaurants in Echoland and bus stops to reach the skifields. Takoa san picked me up from the station and dropped me off when I left.
Very minor grumble but I was not a big fan of the powdered green tea supplied in the room - but it was okay.

Verified reviewTaka and his wife were lovely and extremely helpful hosts. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and assist with any questions that we had - whether it be lift tickets, ski hire or buses. The facilities were immaculate and the private onsen (in the snow) was great to share as a couple. One of the best places we have ever stayed. Location in the heart of Echoland was convenient for getting to all of Hakuba’s resorts. Thank you Taka!

Taka really cares about his guests and the rooms are very clean and neat. Private onsen is amazing and value for money. Verified reviewThe property was in Echoland; an excellent location being next to Lion Ski Rental, Jaja Supermarket & many delicious restaurants nearby. Takao and his wife were wonderful hosts; extremely friendly, welcoming and always smiling. Takao speaks English and was so kind to take us from and to the train station. The hotel itself feels like a country Japanese home with beautiful and classy decor. There is a fireplace. There is also a private onsen (book once a day) that guests can use with washing facilities - wonderful!! The breakfasts were superb. Each breakfast was home-cooked - delicious omelette with sausage/bacon, bread and jam, cereal and milk, juice, yoghurt, salad, fruit and tea. A nutritious and protein-packed breakfast that will prepare you for a day of skiing/snowboarding. The room was big!! Bed was really comfortable. Toilet had everything we needed. Beautiful cute room!! I love everything about Hotel Soyokaze. We felt like special guests staying in someone’s home. Thank you so much, Takao & wife. Staying here was a highlight for my partner and I in Japan. We will always cherish our special experience here.

Verified reviewThe location was excellent, a few steps from the main street in Echoland. The facility was clean, warm and very quiet. Mostly, Taka-san, the owner was most enjoyable and very helpful letting us know the mountain and ski status daily, how to get the most efficient shuttles to and from the ski resorts, and arranging any transportation to and from bus and train stations. Very friendly and made our stay quite enjoyable.

Takao the owner went above and beyond for us, taking us to and from the bus terminal, to the atm across town, and to drop our bag off at the delivery service. He was so so lovely. The location is just perfect as well, walking distance to everything you could need for a snow trip. We will be back!
