Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe were not informed there was an access to train station/walkway on the lower level! That would have saved so much time as exposure to the hot sun! Please let your guests know, especially those not aware Japan hotels sometimes have this amazing feature!
Everything was wonderful! Staff super helpful for first time tourists in Japan! When it wasn't crowded, I appreciated the breakfast room staff allowing me to sit at a table to lounge (of course, I asked them first if it's ok). Everything was clean and comfortable. Great location near Gion district with easy walk to Nishiki market and shopping. Loved the shade that the awnings provided over all the sidewalks all along our street. And bonus - 7/11 was literally right across street from Hotel Forza! We had no idea how important and convenient this was!

United StatesThe dryers. Maybe I got spoiled by American dryers. I washed laundry on one morning around 7AM, hoping to finish by 9. However, the dryers are not powerful at all, and it took me a whole morning and some creative methods to get my laundry kind of dry.
Everything. The location is excellent, right on the main street. The staff is very helpful, and the room I stayed in is the biggest one I had among three hotels in Japan. Everything is clean and top-notched.

NetherlandsThe only thing that didn't really work for me was the internet connection in my hotel room. I mostly browsed using my own mobile data when upstairs. To be honest; I didn't really bother to ask because I was out exploring most of the time and/or used my laptop in the lobby/ foyer area.
The hotel seems to be a bit hidden but as soon as you enter the grand foyer downstairs, it feels like entering a hidden gem. The design gives the hotel a luxurious appearance which gets supported by the professional hotel staff. The breakfast was more expensive than at the other places I visited but the service and venue made up for it in price. There is a very stylish lounge where one can sit at all times (except for breakfast time I you didn't book) and they provide free coffee/ hot cocoa and matcha latte (fell in love with the latte(r)) and one free sake shot per night. The hotel room was bigger and lighter than I expected and I slept very comfortably.

United StatesMaybe it’s just me and I’m too picky or something but the staff at check in wasn’t very welcoming and looked annoyed when I was trying to figure out the self check in desk.
The location is amazing, walkable distance to main attractions and if you’re exhausted to walk the taxi ride won’t cost you a fortune since everything is nearby (we preferred it over public transport). The size of the room is also good, not huge, but for Japan is more spacious than you would usually get for the same price; two tall adults with 2 suitcases were feeling just fine in there. The rooms and the hotel itself is clean, modern, has all the amenities and looked after.

ItalyPerhaps I didn't find it but it would have been great to have a water refill station. Two water bottles were provided when checking in in your room but with the jot weather that affects Kyoto in August it would be great if there was a water station where guests could refill their bottles. As another very minor negative point, the room as well as the bathroom were sparklingly clean. Therefore it was truly a pity to find hair on bathroom walls and in bathtub. They were clearly left while cleaning, but it was still unpleasant to see
The decent size of the room made my stay very enjoyable. I liked the quality and the variety of the toiletries provided. Breakfast was also very good and there were always new dishes to try each day. The location is perfect and it allows you to reach almost anything worth seeing in Kyoto on foot. The complimentary daily glass of sake is also a nice touch!

AustraliaIt was a little small but we were able to store and access our suitcases.
It was good quality, clean and in a great location. Our family loved the use of the coffee machine and I liked the convenience of having a washer/dryer that was easily accessible. The breakfasts were delicious, with lots of variety and freshly cooked.

United KingdomNothing really !!! Only thing would be is could have another coffee machine rather than just the one as there was always a queue ( an machine was a bit slow) But great coffee so probs why always a queue 🤪
The location of the hotel was great, good location for transport both trains and city bus to get to other places we were visiting. Also hotel was central on a Main Street so easily accessible to shops and eateries and places of interest by foot too. Staff were always helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was good with a good selection. Drinks from coffee machine were very good, coffees, macha drinks and hot chocolate. Also 1 complimentary Sake each night ! Hotel areas where always clean or being cleaned 👍🏼

United KingdomMentioned previously, not enough washing machines for the amount of the rooms. Always busy in the morning/ evening. Can't comment on situation during the day as we were out sightseeing. But eventually we managed to get washing done late at night.
Good location, easy access to shopping, Gion, markets, sightseeing, cafes and restaurants. A few metro stops/stations around. Situated in a busy area but hotel was quiet and comfortable and had a nice calming interior. We had a view of the main street. Free coffe/tea/matcha/ sake. Water/ice dispenser, laundry facilities and microwave. Area to relax near reception. Very helpful, friendy and efficient staff. They helped us with check-in and luggage forwarding. Good size room, comfy bed, good water pressure in shower, good wi-fi. Would stay here again. We had a comfortable stay.

AustraliaThe room was very dark and my room had frosted windows so it did seem even darker. I would have preferred a room with a proper window to let some light in and some sort of outlook
This location was absolutely perfect - you step outside the door and it's the middle of the bustling city but inside, it's incredibly quiet and peaceful. Staff were wonderful and beds (including pillows!) were comfy. If I come back to Kyoto I would absolutely stay here again.

United StatesThe only thing I didn’t like was the frosted window, it would’ve been nice to be able to look outside.
It had a huge room, very nice roomy and modern bathroom. It was in the middle of everything, walking distance to train station, bus stop, Nishiki market, Gion etc.
